Jack B. Middleton, President –
Jack lives in Freedom, N.H. and has three grown children. He received his A.B. from Lafayette College in 1950 and his J.D. from Boston University School of Law in 1956. Jack has been active in numerous civic, professional and bar association activities in New Hampshire for many years. He is president of the law firm of McLane, Graf, Raulerson & Middleton, Professional Association. Jack worked at the Observatory during 1952-53. He has been a trustee since 1957. Jack serves on the Observatory's Executive Committee, is a part chair of the Governance Committee, and for more than five decades served as the Observatory's secretary.
Ed Bergeron, Vice President –
Ed Bergeron and his wife Kathy reside in North Conway. They have two daughters and four granddaughters. Ed is the president of H.E. Bergeron Engineers, Inc., a consulting civil, structural and land surveying firm, which he started in 1974. Ed received his bachelor degree in civil engineering from the University of New Hampshire in 1970 and an MBA from Plymouth State University in 1988. Growing up as a farm boy in Southern New Hampshire, Ed first hiked, climbed and skied in the White Mountains while a member of the UNH Outing Club in the 1960s. His outdoor activities include hiking and climbing all over the US, Europe and New Zealand, as well as bicycling, fly-fishing and outdoor photography. His volunteer involvement in the outdoors includes being a member of the AMC Board of Directors, chairman of the Hut Committee, a member of the Facilities Committee, and a member of the Nature Conservancy Green Hills Committee, as well as teaching photography workshops for the Tin Mountain Conservation Center. Ed has had an interest in weather since his youth on the farm, where his dad was the local NWS cooperative observer. It intensified as part of his pilot training in the 1970s and continued as a backup observer for local weather icon Briggs Bunker. Currently, Ed is the NOAA, National Weather Service cooperative observer for North Conway and reports his observations each morning to the NWS in Gray, ME.
Leslie Schomaker, Treasurer –
Leslie Schomaker lives in Jackson, N.H. A graduate of Wellesley College in 1966, she received her M.B.A. from the University of New Hampshire in 1983. She has experience in computers, programming and accounting. In the early days of PCs, Leslie started a consulting business in Maine that helped computerize the accounting functions of for-profit businesses and not-for-profit organizations. This often involved custom programming to get the client's data into a format that could be imported into accounting software. She has been self-employed in many different areas: as a publisher of hiking cards for New Hampshire and Vermont, owner of restaurants in Kennebunkport, ME and owner of a company that resold natural gas to a West Virginia utility. She enjoys being outside in the Mount Washington Valley: skiing, hiking, playing tennis, biking or golfing. Leslie was named a trustee of the Observatory in 2003, and now serves as treasurer.
Alexandra T. Breed, Secretary –
Alexandra and her husband, Douglas Hill, live in Gilford, NH. They have two grown children, both of whom are educators and coaches.
Alexandra received her undergraduate degree at Vassar College, graduating Cum Laude in 1970 with a degree in American History. She then went on to Boston University Law School and received her JD in 1974 and LL.M. in Tax in 1999.
Alexandra is a Director of McLane, Graf, Raulerson & Middleton, PA, the largest law firm in NH, where she concentrates in estate planning, trust and estate administration, conservation easements and real estate trusts for family properties.
Alexandra has been active in numerous civic and professional organizations for many years, including The Nature Conservancy-NH, Squam Lakes Natural Science Center, and Appalachian Mountain Club. Recently she has served as Chairman of the Development Committee and Governance Committee of the Mount Washington Observatory, and currently serves on the Development Committee and as Secretary of the Observatory.
Drew Landry, Immediate Past President –
Drew is currently a tax principal with John G. Burk and Company, CPAs, P.C., where his primary duties include tax compliance and representation for closely-held businesses and estates. In addition, he renders forensic accounting services for a wide variety of clients. He has assisted state and federal authorities in the prosecution of complex financial crimes. Previously, Drew was employed as a revenue agent with the Internal Revenue Service from 1974 to 1984. He has bachelor's and master's degrees from Bentley College in Waltham, Mass., and is an associate member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the American Bar Association. Drew is admitted to the bar of the United States Tax Court. Drew currently serves as a trustee for the Mayhew Program for Boys and treasurer for the Rivermead Retirement Community, The Connecticut Valley Estate Planning Council and The Keene Academy Foundation. He also serves on the Board of Overseers of the Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital and the Cheshire Medical Center. Drew resides in Keene, NH with his wife Carol and has two grown children.
