Observe wildlife from a distance. Do not follow or approach them.
Never feed animals. Feeding wildlife damages their health, alters natural behaviors, and exposes them to predators and other dangers.
Protect wildlife (such as mice, chipmunks, squirrels, and bears) and your food by storing rations and trash securely.
Control pets at all times, or leave them at home. (Dogs are allowed on the trails, but must be under control at all times - voice control, if effective, is sufficient, but a leash should be brought along as well. Dogs are not allowed overnight at Hermit Lake Shelter Area or at Lakes of the Clouds Hut. Please be sure you dispose of dog waste properly! And be aware that your city or suburban pet may not enjoy the rough and steep trails of Mount Washington - dogs have suffered injuries on the mountain, and there is no canine rescue squad.)
Avoid wildlife during sensitive times: mating, nesting, raising young, or winter.
