Lets not forget the true meaning of what this day is really about.

Let's give thanks to all the men and woman, who gave their lives for our country. To help keep us a free and safe nation.

We are all here on the MWO because we share the same love to climb and hike the mountains and forests of our land.
We see the beauty and thrill of it. We are free to do this! Our children and other loved ones are free to do this!

Please don't forget what Memorial Day is really about.

God Bless All Those Lost, and God Bless All Of You.

Joseph and Margaret

Joey,

As a Vietnam Vet, I appreciate your post and your words, and appreciate all our military men and women have and are doing for us.

I can't agree more. Let us also continue to remember not only what our troops have done in the past for our freedom in which we all are enjoying now but also what our troops have set before them to ensure our future freedom. This current war is as important a war as any we have been in before. The enemy and his strategies may be different but the end results are that if we don't stand up now then we will have much larger problems to face in the future. Lets continue to support our military and give them as much support as they need for as long as they need it to win this battle..

I am also a vet, to be more specific, a Disabled American Veteran. I want to thank everyone for taking the time to remember us and our less fortunate brothers. However, I think the political views on the current war should be saved for another forum. There are many of us who would disagree with what has been posted so far. It may be a great topic for debate, but not here.

Your right Kevin. I didn't want to make this a political thread, just a "remember what this day is all about" thread, and to thank people like you and Brad for keeping our country safe.

I might have been a little over-sensitive there, sorry.

Dad is a Korean war vet, sister was in the Marines (first woman in Corp history to be stationed at Gitmo), I was in 11 years (Cavalry-Staff Sergeant), and my nephew (sister's kid) is currently an EOD tech (SFC) in Iraq. His 3rd combat tour. He'll be home in August and is hoping to stay in the US for a couple years at least. He got more guts than anyone I've ever met. Nerves of steel on the kid.

It's not and should not be about "Politics"... it's about life. My viewpoints weren't meant to offend anyone on this forum so if I have please forgive me.:D

Though views may differ on the war there is one thing we should all agree on.
That is the support for our troops. The sons and daughters of our families are over there and they need to know that we are behind them. Let us ALL today join together and support our fellow americans who are laying their lives on the line for us. GOD BLESS AMERICA.

"that we here highly resolve that these dead shall have not died in vain - that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom - that government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth."
A. Lincoln

We'll have the boys in my Scout Troop out marching in our local Memorial Day service and parade to the cemetary. They'd like it to be just another day off, but, I think we need to help them understand. If we can grow them the right way as boys, it's a lot easier than trying to fix them later as men. Most of them are exhausted from our white water trip down the Kennebeck yesterday, but, they'll be at the Memorial Day services. Our thoughts go out to all those families who have lost men and women in service to our country.

Great parade pictures.

One of my favorite pictures I took a couple of years ago.
