Mount Flume 6/16/07

We climbed Mount Flume from Lincoln Woods via the Wilderness Trail and Osseo Trail. The trail was dry with no blowdowns. Weather was hot, climbing in the understory was stifling, especially when you looked up and the canopy was swaying in the breeze. The blackflies were still not that bad, but they're getting worse. The spring wildflowers are fading at lower elevations but strong between 3 and 4000 feet. The alpine flowers are getting ready to blossom. There was little breeze on the summit and skies overhead threatened rain, and we got a short shower on the descent. Jude's ankle was fine despite spraining it last week, not sore, just tired.

Mount Flume is at the southern end of the Franconia Ridge above Franconia Notch. We reached it from the Wilderness Trail which is at the Lincoln Woods on the Kancamagus Highway.

Thanks. I will have to take a look at it. I have not hiked off of the Kanc yet but do eventually wish to hike from there.
