View Full Version : MWO Web Site Camera images

For over a year I have run a set of processes taking the web camera images off the MWO web site and getting the images posted to my personal Fotki photo web site. Over time these have created confusion for folks wanting to keep track of my photos and activities. Then I saw the new "Conditions" weather summary image on the MWO site and that put me over the top.

I have now created a new Fotki account for the Mount Washington Observatory with an id of "MWO". Each of the 4 web camera images off the MWO site now flow to this new photo site. And I have included the Conditions image in the process.

The uploads go to albums in the "Current Images" folder. Each day I move the daytime images to the archives. Once a day I will move the 3:00 PM Conditions image (which covers the prior 24 hour period) to its archive album.

This will give us insight to the conditions on our favorite mountain.

Suggestions and feedback are welcome.

After finishing my normal morning moving of yesterday's images to the archives I checked Fotki's home page and the MWO Fotki account was listed as "the most active" account on Fotki. For sure this is a slow morning being December 31st!

To get ready for the new Presidentials web camera image I have added an album for it. Once the images start flowing to the MWO site they should also flow to the Fotki photo site.

Sign up and join the Observatory - then we can get to see the images sooner!

The new album is in the Current folder in the MWO Fotki link below.

The new Presidentials camera image would be great to see today. You go to hazecam.net and check out the view of Mt Washington from the east and the summit is in the clouds. Ravines camera images show the same. The images around Maine like at http://www.wgme.com/webcam/webcam3_new.shtml show a wonderful day.

I am sure the new Presidential camera images today would be so cool - summit in the clouds - late afternoon sun shining off the snow on the western side of Mt Washington. Oh my - I can't wait to see what it is like. We are almost to the 1/2 way point in getting 250 new members.

The bottom 2 graphs on the Conditions image have stopped recording data - on the image.

Some of the web cameras are inside heated or semi-heated space at the summit. Is the Ravines camera inside? Or is it heated some way to keep the lens clear?

Will the new Presidentials camera be inside or is it heated or will it get covered in snow or ice?

The Ravines cam is "inside", but it is not heated. There is no climate control in the box or even in the building.

Happened again. Someone must be working on the stuff again ...

Take a look at the Tuck's zoom. You can see two distinct trails heading up through the snow on the summit cone. It's very clear up there today.

Wow, the sunset video from the Presidentials camera was the best so far. And the West sunrise video was nice and clear.

Morning all...

On todays Obs deck sunrise video, just behind and to the left of the temporary instruments, something seems to be rolling around on the deck. Looks like a snowball but these videos are a total of 90 minutes... a long time for a snowball to roll or blow around. Any guesses?

Also the morning video of the ravines is flawless!

Yes, its a snowball. It's just slowly getting pushed around in an eddy. Wind this morning was around 35mph, so right on the deck its probably quite low.

It was very clear this morning. The Obs was recording 120 mile visibility with SKC, sky clear. SKC is quite rare, not a cloud in the sky, not even a wisp of a cirrus.

how often does it take a photo to make toe hole thing.

if you stop the film and move it over frame by frame there is one frame that there is some one running back in .

There will be a Total Lunar eclipse on Saturday night. See www.SpaceWeather.com for details.

Do you think one of the webcams might catch it at all?

Below is a graphic showing times.

Unfortunately, I think I am a little too far west to catch it.

I can describe what the web camera will look like during totality.

Actually it should have a pretty nice red cast to it from atmospheric refraction in the Eastern US

I meant to emphasize the "web camera" since I figured it wouldn't pick up that nice red glow. Either way, I think clouds are in the forecast.

The moon is setting now and can be seen in the West camera image.

See all that cirrus and contrails? That's the primary reason this morning's low wasn't a March record.

This is when you wish the Ravines camera was higher quality. We had a moon shot last night.

I was going through the images from all the cameras from the past few days. I found this one off the new Presidentials camera on March 30th. Of all the images from any of the cameras I now have a new favorite. This is wonderful!

The Tux zoom shows a huge crown line this morning. Evidence of some large avalanches in the area.

Dumb question but, How do you zoom the tux camera? Am I missing something?

PS: I hiked up to the bowl on monday and Man does it have a ton of snow.
It was wild up there on Monday 4-9-07. Like a Blizzard, I shoed some way up Lions head where there was 4-6 feet of snow in spots. Stoped at about 4100ft.
Cant wait to do it again.......

Not sure what else to tell you. Follow this link:

http://www.mountwashington.org/weather/cam/ravines/

On the right there is a section called "Additional Cam Views."

There's your bread and butter. Those are the zooms. Click on them with the left mouse button and a new window will open with a larger image. Of course, you have to be logged into your MWO account.

My uploading process to grab the images off the MWO site and post to the MWO Fotki site is OFFLINE. The Road Runner support folks came to the house in Maine today and said the wireless router is "bad" (was working fine as far as we could see beforehand). So, they set the network up differently and I can no longer get at the house network till I get to Maine and work on it.

The result is the images are not flowing to the archive site. I will try to do a backup approach - but it may take me some time to get that working. Hang in there ...

Brad

Backup approach is running off my laptop. We will see how this works till I can get to Maine in a few weeks.

The images should be flowing to the archive site again.

Great Tucks sunrise movie this morning. Constant stream of clouds pouring into Tuckerman Ravine and dissapointing as the air sinks and warms.
