I'm told Nin took them to one of the huts to show to friends, but should be returned within a few weeks. Meanwhile there is at least one kitty photo on the new site, and Nin is offering half a bowl of virtual cat food to the first person who posts a link to it. No, the Shop icon doesn't count.

What/Who is Nin?

What/Who is Nin?
Nin is the resident feline of the observatory. His job seems to entail lounging around and chasing mice. He was named after the female writer Anais Nin, but it was shortened to just Nin when the Obs staff found Nin-the-cat was really a He.

I believe his predecessor was Inga. There were a collection of feline photos in the picture gallery, but I'm not sure if they will be kept with the webpage redesign.

Yes! Several times a year make the trip to the North Country, during the fall and winter usually, for the winter hiking and skiing. Doesn’t get cold enough this far south yet.

First time I was ever at the Obsvervatory I saw Inga....she was sleeping in a display case in the shop.....I still have her poster on my wall.

I think I saw Nin last time I was there with my fellow meterology students...there was cat there, but I don't remember his/her name.

kmwn cats rule!

Nin-Kitty! Nin the great hiking cat and obs helper! Nin is a joy.

If I remember right, Nin moved to the summit in the '95/ early '96 time frame. He did follow Inga, but was the junior cat to the always unassuming Jasper until ~'99 / '00 when Jasper passed away. Sorry my dates are not particularly precise. I'm sure others here know more specifically than I.

It is amazing how well things run when she is around. I wonder if she has ever seen the fox up close and personal.

OK NIN so fall has arrived (sort of) and the winter snows can’t be too far behind so what are you’re plans for the winter?? Any vacations to the Islands, possibly Hawaii or just keeping the rodent  population down at the house this winter.

Hello,

How is Nin? We got to meet him this past July when we participated in the Seek the Peak challenge. What a great feline! We have 3 cats at home: Ruth and Eve who are all black, and Skittles, the new kitten, who is white with tiger spots. They get along great. So my question is, how 'bout some feline companionship for Nin? He must get lonely during the long, cold winters :) and a kitten would certainly keep him young.

Nin, how was your visit to the vet? I hope that all is well and you are healthy :) . Being the boss and all (observatory note 11/17), I'm surprised that you don't have a vet to do house calls for you.

If the sunrise video will be real time, I promise to watch it as I drive in to work in the morning. I normally watch sunrise at one of the web cameras at our house in Maine. But, one on the summit would be far better.

Well NIN it’s nice to see you, been a while! Trust everything is OK????. Guess the rodents at the mountain base aren’t as hardy as the higher altitude ones? Well again nice to see you don’t be a stranger (like more pictures) take care and don’t listen to what the DOC says keep eating the rodents there good for you, and have a great Halloween.
