Any thoughts to a "for sale" section or "gear exchange" where we could post gear we want to sell or trade with others? I know there's eBay and craigslist, but I'd prefer to let the MWO forum readers have first dibs on anything I want to get rid of.

I would imagine it would be a post, and then users could send private messages back to the seller, so we're not clogging the board with "how much" and whatnot.

Just an idea, don't flame me!

I like the idea of dealing with members of the forum opposed to the Nigerian scam artists on Ebay. But you run a fine line of getting overrun by people selling goods.

the goods should be for out door recreation and mt Washington stuff only with no advertising of commercial sites or to promote any thing .this will be to sell personnel things thats all

i would love to see this take off so us new comers can get good things cheaper and the others can update there gear .

Check with Darren, Alan and Dave on VFTT before jumping into this. They've had problems in the past leading to having a policy against this. Then again, RoT opened it up recently and there has not been an onslaught.

RoT has a message on their front page that says it's a restricted community; perhaps that's why they haven't had problems with this.

Sounds like a great idea to me. I've got a brand new pair of skis and bindings I'd like to sell.

And I just might want to buy them. Just because I live in Florida doesn't mean I can't or don't ski.:)

I think it's a good idea to be able to buy/sell/trade our personal stuff here provided it's done tastefully and respectably. Rules need to be established.

Just saw this thread for the first time...

I'm on another forum that uses the same software and the way they avoided the onslaught of ads and scammers is that the classifieds forum is only viewable to PAID members. When you are viewing the forums, under the posters avatar and name it says "[FORUM NAME] MEMBER" in red, versus just some other generic titles.

If you register on the forums, but don't pay the "support" fee, then you never see that and other topic areas on the site.

Perhaps something similar could work with those that are current MWO Members.

No, it died because the administrators wanted it to. I'm on board with them as well.

It sounds like this could be another members only perk for the Obs. Places on the forums site that are members only might help boost membership.
