Hi All,
We've been out of touch for a couple months, so thought I'd try to do a quick catch-up with everyone.
First, I would like to say a belated "Congratulations" to Emma for her 48x2! That's an incredible accomplishment! We haven't even gotten through out 48x1 yet!! I was envious reading about KD's summit visit over Thanksgiving. I wish that I could have seen Nin once more before he headed off to retirement.
This fall, we did a few hikes: Mt Moosilauke for Flags on the 48, Bald Knob, Bridal Veil Falls and Mt Cabot. We did Lafayette via the Greenleaf trail - we'd never done it from that direction before. I thought it was a tougher trail than Old Bridle Path. And Mt Garfield in a ton of snow in November. Mt Garfield is still amongst our favorite mountains. It's really a relatively gentle climb all the way to the ridge.
We've had the opportunity to snowshoe a bunch of times already: East and West Rattlesnake, Mt Tecumseh, Mt Tom, Mt Percival... And even a couple X-C ski trips to Franconia Notch in piles of fluff!
All-in-all, it's been an incredible winter so far, and it's barely January. In our few previous years in NH, we would have seen no winter weather at all yet. Still sad to see the warm temps and rain this week, but we're confident that there's plenty more snow to come.
We've signed up for Seek the Peak. We plan to camp at Moose Brook for a couple days around the event. We can't wait to see all the folks that we met last year... BlueDog, Rudabaga, Rex, Brad. Is it wrong that I'm looking forward to the post-hike dinner already??
I also did my voting today... both for the Presidential Primary and for the Mt Washington Top Cat. Got all the priorities covered!
Trail report and pictures from all our hikes can be found at http://www.barkeater.ws/nh48/
Happy New Year!
Valerie
