Hello all. I am taking a college geography course and I have a question about surface winds. I needed to know where the fastest surface winds are, which I found are Mt Washington. I also need to know what these winds are called. I can't see to find any information regarding what these winds are known as. Is there anyone out there who knows and can help?

Thanks!!

Not going to make it that easy for your! :p
The term you are looking for is orographic wind. The story of the world record wind is written in depth elsewhere on this site already...good luck!

If you are thinking of chinooks, foehns, mistrals, or monsoon....the winds on Mount Washington don't really have a name like that.

The winds on Mount Washington are certainly influenced by the orography, but wouldn't they be more accurately called geostrophic winds? The main driving force here is high and low pressure.
