A friend told me of a video of the NH National Guard Blackhawk helicopter attemting a rescue on Mt. Washington. He described the helicopter as having one skid on the mountain and the other in the air. Possibly a news event as the pilot was interviewed and told how dangerous the missions are.

Can someone help me locate the video.

There was a Blackhawk rescue video posted on youtube, but it has been removed, not sure why. It was made last fall but it was actually on Mount Jefferson. I'll email the photographer and see if I can get a link.

Yeah, I'm not sure which rescue NH Bob is referring to. The one I'm talking about actually shows the chopper pluck the guy from Monticello Lawn on Jefferson.

I got this photo from Mike Pelchat. For those that don't know he is the State Park manager on Mount Washington and is responsible for scores of rescues (and some recoveries) and helping hundreds of hikers in many different ways. He was one of the first on the scene for this rescue last fall on Jefferson. There was a video posted on youtube, but it was removed due to patient confidentiality.

Note: I learned this from Mike, though I should have remembered from my Air Force days. The old Hueys had skids, but the Blackhawks, (which weren't around when I was in the AF) have wheels.

There is a short video of a Blackhawk searching for a lost hiker on Franconia Ridge here. It doesn't come anywhere near touching down, though:

Searching on YouTube I came across this guy's website:

Does anybody know when this occurred?

I saw that, too. I don't remember the incident at all, but then, I don't know everything, just most everything. ;)

It reminds me of Dr. Ball, just a hundred and fifty years later.

Hey,

Thanks for the help, my son is stationed in Afghanistan and before that in Iraq. He sent me several good photos of the Mountains and one of him in a Blackhawk. When I heard of the rescue photo I thought he mighht like to see it.
