springtime in the White Mountains

These were shot on June 1st, on a hike up Table Mtn. (Bear Notch), and on the way to the trailhead at sunrise.

bull moose..I've named him "Hobbs". I've seen him for three years now. He had a great winter, and he's getting huge. I'd guess he's over a half ton now. He looks very healthy, clear eyes, no ticks.

Looks like Hobbs may need to join the moose gallery - he's one handsome guy. And I want to know the same thing as Charlie - how close did you get to that fawn!?!? Thanks for bringing us along again.

Thanks for nice feedback! I was stalking a Magnolia Warbler along an old logging road that crosses the trail. I got close to the deer before we knew of each other's presence. Then mama noticed me, and I was very close to the fawn. She tried to call her fawn by stomping her foot. That's how I noticed her. She was looking at me and also at the fawn. The fawn was very tired and walking very wobbly toward me, with eyes half open. She was ready for a nap. She might have thought I was mama because she kept walking toward me, looking right at me. Mama kept stomping her foot and she turned her rear end toward us and wagged her white tail to get the fawn's attention, but the baby kept walking toward me and laid down for a nap about 5' away. After a few nice pictures I backed up and made a coyote yipping sound. The fawn sprang up and ran back toward mama and then they both bounded away. It was awesome!

For my part I'd gladly pass up getting the pictures just to be there. Seems like the sights on each of Patrick's hikes are equal to a once in a lifetime experience for the rest of us. Stalking a Magnolia Warbler indeed... :rolleyes:

At least we all get to live vicariously through your hikes. Just keep hiking and posting!
