There is a great feature in this forum called private messaging. It's the perfect tool to have a private conversation with another member of the board.

Instead of posting a comment like, "Hey John, what's up?" in the public forum. You can ask John, what is up privately. This will clean up some of the noise in the public areas and make the threads easier to read.

would this thread be a good example of what you're talking about? after the initail question was answered it seems the thread veered to who's living where and what kind of vehicle one should drive in order to avoid long drives.

That's a good example of a thread that drifted off topic. It happens, usually it means the thread is dead and its time to move on.
