So, we did the presi traverse yesterday and passed a kid carrying a metal canoe up Mt Washington from Lake of the Clouds. He said that he had gone down and paddled in the lake and carried the canoe the whole way. Does anyone know what drove him to do this? It was so funny! I will post a pic later!

"Does anyone know what drove him to do this?"

Gene or chromosome deficiency.

Too each his own.

My guess is that is illegal.

Is it as ridiculous as hauling skis to descend 20 vertical feet of snow?

I think it is actually more ridiculous! I also did wonder if that were illegal! Very odd.

Or carrying 2 sets of skis and boots to see which fits?

Y'all should come play with us at the Auto Road Tollhouse for a day. We've got the skinny on the daily Canoe races at LOC , plus a pool on the fastest round trip portage.

 :D

The Dartmouth Outing Club tends to this every summer. I can imagine it makes for some good pictures in the lake.

I don't know if it is illegal, but I don't think it's not illegal...seems like a silly rule to have on the books...

Isn't it true that you're not talking about the legality of this potentially illegal act?

Seem like it.

Actually it is legal or at least the rangers can't prove that it is illegal. The dartmouth kids have been doing this off and on over the years. One year the rangers tried to stop them on the trail coming up the Ammo. A long conversation ensued between the students and the ranger and in the end the ranger couldn't actually come up with a regulation that they were violating.

This is what I love about the forums, you guys can have fun with anything. I do think that hiking a canoe down from the summit is tough enough, but hiking one up Ammo is pure insanity....Although not a bad initiation into the club!:D

It gave us a great laugh for the rest of the traverse, and we both decided that if someone can carry a canoe up mt washington there was no reason we could not finish the traverse in one day!

I have carried lots of canoes lots of miles (when I was a lot younger) and those are miles I would not want to bring a canoe along.
