the comments say it's fake because lightning originates from the ground.

I've heard that as well, but I thought you can still have cloud to ground lightning, as well as cloud to cloud.

Anyone? Bueller?

The opposite charge between the ground and the sky meet in the middle. So in truth there is lightning coming up from the ground, but also forks from the sky. When the opposite charges connect (kind of like static electricity), presto: you have lightning.

Youtube comments will be the downfall of the world. I don't know why anybody would let people leave comments on their videos.
