I recently added an extension to my browser entitled WOT for "Web of Trust" that relies upon the feedback of others in rating the safety of various web-sites. Delving deeper into this extension there are links to Whois, Alexa and.....Wayback Machine.

If anyone is interested, here (http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.mountwashington.org) is the link from Wayback Machine to older archives of the Mt. Washington Observatory site.

BTW here (http://web.archive.org/web/20010118210000/http://www.mountwashington.org/) is one from Jan 18, 2001.

I've looked at the Wayback Machine a few times in the past but had never thought about looking a the history of the MWOBS site. Just a bit of evolution since 1996

I do remember some of those old web site designs.

Was the kidnapping ever resolved?

Ransom note? A bit of wingtip as proof?

Never, except everybody knows Jon did it.

I was just looking at the forum member list. Does anyone remember when the forum first came online.

Other forums have a way to sort by join date.

The oldest join date I found was BravoCharlie 4/12/06

I thought it was winter to early spring of 2007. There would have been IDs when it was being tested but public access I thought was new before STP 2007.

But I see the April 28, 2006 archive does not have the Forum link and the September 29, 2006 does have the link. So, it was some time in the summer of 2006.

I first joined in June 2006 under a different handle. I must have been one of the first 10 or 20. It probably wasn't public back in April 06.

I'm pretty sure it was near the end of April 2006. I joined back in May of 06 probably within the first couple of weeks it was up. I was asking because I'm curious how many folks who joined up back then are still around and posting. I know Kevin is as well as Forestgnome. There were a couple of guys who were posting like mad for a couple of weeks back then but have long since disappeared.

I also see that I joined in early June of 06, I recall there being quite a bit of discussion about it on the website. All told it has evolved nicely. There has been quite a bit of interesting conversation, everything from how to set up a webcam system to a self cleaning driveway with many stops in between.

The forums went live the 2nd week of May 2006. A couple of insiders will have a join date in April when the software was initially installed/configured.

I was "Nevis Highwire"...that was my username. I changed to Bill O a few months later.

No offense intended, but I like "Nevis Highwire" better as it has an acrobatic ring to it. Like climbing up an icy slope with no rope to arrest your fall. But that's just my opinion and it's worth wouldn't buy you a cup coffee! :D

That was before you climbed Ben this year. Or had you done it before?

Does anyone out there know when/who/what was the first observer comment ever? Wayback can pin it down to a couple months, but doesn't have the first one.

The earliest one I've found is March 9, 2000 (http://web.archive.org/web/20000309020347/http://www.mountwashington.org/) with [None]. Prior to that the Observor Comment box is just blank. The first Observor Comment I've found was on October 2, 2000 (http://web.archive.org/web/20001002155316/http://www.mountwashington.org/).
Another clear morning allows another view of the sunrise. Mild weather continues on the summit and is expected to stick around until mid week.

You folks weren't too talkative back then. :D
