I liked the waterfall too, where is the house located?

On most maps the "house" is located at Hermit Lake - or Hermit Shelter. Us old timers have always called it "HoJo's". When you hike from Pinkham Notch Visitor Center on Tuckermans trail past the Lions Head trail junction you come to HoJo's. It is a ranger building and is the base of operations for the Hermit lake shelters and lean to's.

From HoJo's you look back to see the Headwall and a common way of getting to the summit on the east side.

Kathy,

I was looking for a summer picture of HoJo's and Tuckerman Headwall in back. But, I only have winter ones for some reason. To the left of the building (south) is a large deck with a wall with windows. This is a great place for viewing the ravine and headwall - especially with the winter winds coming through.

Brad....your winter photo of Tucks has what looks like a massive fracture line.

Does anybody know the background behind that wall of windows at HoJos? Was it always meant to be a wind break or was it part of a larger structure at some point?

Bill,

Are you talking about this fracture line?

As long as I can remember there has been the deck and wall at HoJo's. I have been trying to find old photos I took as a kid but have not been successful - yet.

That crown has to be well over 6 feet on the right.

Thank you Brad for taking the time to post that, I'm guessing that you have to hike to get there...

The hike from Pinkham Notch Visitor Center to HoJo's is about 2 miles. Going back in the winter is a lot easier than in summer as all the rocks and ruts are filled in with packed snow. It is a fun place to go to hang out on the deck and soak in the rays and surroundings.

Here's a summer one (from this year's Seek The Peak). Note that Nat is obeying the rule and not wearing crampons on the porch ;)
