I've been on the rock pile half a dozen times, but never to Lakes of the Clouds. I was just wondering how deep the lakes are, and if deep enough, is swimming allowed?
Thanks,
Chris

I think swimming is highly discouraged and it may be illegal.

My guess is that the lakes are not very deep. Tens of feet not hundreds.

I do not recall any section that was even close to 10 feet deep. Now, I was swimming as fast as I could to get to the other side - and it was many years ago. In many places breaststroke is all you can do. One does not want to do a forceful crash with a leg against a rock also.

I agree this is at least not recommended. Not sure it is illegal - but better to wade in the very cold water and say you did. We had hot chocolate waiting for us at the hut when we finished.

That may be true, but the original question was about swimming. See, I am staying on topic - for a change.

As you can see, Charlie's method is also effective!
