View Full Version : Mini Contest - Kyle high wind
NEWS FLASH - - - NEWS FLASH
We are starting a short duration mini-contest to guess the high wind for Hurricane Kyle as it passes by the coast of Maine.
Start guessing now and guesses close at 3:00 PM Sunday (today).
On the F6 reports for Sunday or Monday (whichever is higher), September 28th and 29th, what will be the highest wind speed recorded? The winner is the guess which comes closest and DOES NOT go over the actual speed. All guesses must be a whole number.

45mph. And I fear I'm going to go over. Sorry, but this is not a wind maker for Mount Washington.

35 for me.
Looks like a nonstarter

FYI, if you guess under 35mph it looks like you lose automatically.

46. Sounds good to me.
There is a lot of media hype down here in NC about how big a deal this will be for northern New England. My guess is 23 MPH believing there has been no significant gust so far today.

I revise my earlier statement. It looks like the summit had some gusts just over 30mph around 1am this morning.

I didn't get to take a guess :( no one answered my question
If we are talking at the summit I would say probably 40
If we are talking the coast of Maine I would say probably 73
The F6 report is for conditions on the summit. I will add you to the list since you really did try.
Brad - 23 MPH (was original guess)
Brad - 32 MPH (my computer said 3:00PM but it got posted as 3:01 PM)
Patrad Fischroy - 35 MPH
MsCntry - 40 MPH
Bill O - 45 MPH
donnellyvj - 46 MPH
Charlie - 47 MPH
So far today according to the Conditions page we have gotten to a high wind of 31.3 MPH. If that holds as the high for the day and tomorrow, and we use my updated guess of 32 MPH, we all lose.

Congrats to the winner, as usual.

Or does it mean that I win and everybody else just "Price-is-righted" me out of the top spot?
Bill,
Let it be known by everyone that we think you are a winner. Maybe not for this mini-contest - but for something anyway. Rules are rules and we follow the rules. They clearly state that you are not the winner.
Tough.

Very diplomatic, yet firm, Brad. Very authoritative-like. Keep all those unruly contestants in check!

Have you started piling up the dirt yet? Or will be in VT? We could do dueling web cameras.
It is time to shift focus back to the major event of the fall season - the Snow Contest. People across the country are lined up to debate the issues and watch to see who wins. I am sure the banners and signs are up cheering for the favorites. The great part of it all is that we do not have a schedule - no specific dates - we will all know when it is done when it is done.
