My Day Drive 10/4/08

I finally got all of the pictures re sized and loaded in the correct order :D

I kept my word and drove the route I said I was going to. I Left Tamworth and headed up 16, I took a picture of Joe's favorite sign on the way north.

Everything was great until I got about half a mile from the Kancamagus intersection in Conway. I hit a wall of traffic that took about 20 minutes to get through :rolleyes: Why did I drive north on a weekend? So I finally decided to cut across the lanes while traffic coming the opposite way had stopped, and finally turned down the Kanc. I always drive the Kanc no faster than 30 MPH, because I just love the scenery :) I got up to the the Lower Falls Day Use Area, and took some pictures of the colors around the rock ledges.

The place was packed!! I passed quite a few trail heads and there were cars as far as the eye could see. I turned down Bear Notch Road, and let other cars pass me as I like to drive 30mph to enjoy nature. I took some panoramic shots at one of the scenic views, that kinda didn't match up well LOL.

I finally hit Jackson, stopped and got some extra gas. I hit 16 north again and I drove through the purty fall colors, then I saw it...... through the fall colors I saw the snow. I stopped and grabbed some quick shots, it took my breath away.

I was glad to see the two lane highway start up, so I could drive slow and stop and take shots all the way up to the Mount Washington Auto Road. I pulled into the building where the vans leave, and about strangled this asian guy who kept setting off his car alarm and then would walk away with it STILL going off!! So much for peace and serenity!! :rolleyes: I took several panorama of the mountains, then a bunch of individuals.

I would have stayed to enjoy the view longer, but since I was being driven crazy by a car alarm, and I had to get home, my day was cut short. I did however notice the white tent we used for STP, and went to check out what was going on. What a beautiful view for a wedding!!

So I headed back down 16 and somewhere along the way I was spotted by Breeze :D. I finally made it back to the intersection where 16 turned left into Conway, and this is where the nightmare hit...... Tell me again why I drove north on a weekend :rolleyes: It took me an hour and a half to get from that intersection to the other side of Conway to shaws. I picked up my soda headed home, and caught traffic all the way back UUGGHHHH!!! :p I can say that 92 pics and all are beautiful thought some are fuzzy (sorry:o) I hope you enjoy my day drive as much as I did!! :D

My wife was talking about heading up north for a day trip next weekend to see the colors but now after the traffic report I got from you I might try to talk her out of it:(. I will show her all of your pictures instead:D. It looks like you had some beautiful scenery.

Beautiful pics Diane. Looks like a perfect day for foliage in the White Mountains. Unfortunately everyone gets the same idea and thus the crazy traffic. The shots with the beautiful fall colors framing the snow covered peaks are definitely my favorites. The wedding party certainly had a treat!

Lovely, lovely pictures, Diane. My family and I drove through and stopped at various places along 112 yesterday. It was sooooo lovely!! I did NOT want to come back to MA last night. I'd really, really, really like to move permanently north!!!!

I know where you are coming from Trish I have wanted to move up north since forever but my wife is not ready yet to move there:(. I always get so depressed every time I see the sign that says Welcome to TAxachussets on the way home.
