View Full Version : Where has your STP fleece been?
This weekend I wore my STP fleece to and from England. On Friday it went to Blenheim Palace NW of London. On Sunday it was seen all along the eastern coast of Devon in SW England.
Cold, windy almost rainy days and I was warm and toastie. Where have you been with your fleece?

Sadly I don't have a fleece since I was too much of a slacker at fundraising this year. I have however been wearing my STP shirt and displaying my pack tag when I hike. This weekend I met a couple of people on the trail (in NH) that pointed to my shirt and asked me about the event. One said that he had heard of it and thought about it but not done it before. I hopefully talked him into it for next year. Advertise at every opportunity! My current philosophy is - if you can't be a better fundraiser recruit others that are perhaps better...

Mine made the trip from VA back up to NH for the Flag on the 48 hike. Though it did make it to the summits, it wasn't actually cold enough to have to break it out.
I did wear my STP8 shirt on the hike up and changed into the STP07 on at the first flag. Saw a guy on the way down that looked at me kinda puzzled, pointed at the shirt and said, "didn't you have the same shirt on earlier, but it was gray?"

Keep them thinking - and display your shirts and fleece and spread the word about STP.
I have started planning for STP09 since I now want a 2nd fleece. That way I can have one large and one medium depending on how many layers I have underneath. We are going to have 2009 STP fleeces aren't we?

My STP fleece has been to Martha's Vineyard for Columbus Day weekend, and to the valley office of the Obs daily for work. There WILL be an incentive for STP 09 topfundraisers but we've not yet decided on what. I do love hiker feedback...

Lets stick with the fleece again for one more year. I have a large so I can wear bulky things under it. Now I need a medium for warmer weather.
My fleece got to a hot air balloon festival last weekend but had to wait in the car. It was not cold enough for it to venture out - was low 30's - and I was in shorts - so, I would have looked funny - and would not want to do that.
This weekend it will get to a Renaissance Faire outside Charlotte, NC but the forecast is for the mid-60's and too warm again.
At the end of next week it has told me we are heading north so it can go out to play.

Finally saw my fathers a few weeks ago. I was very jealous of it and will definitely be working on getting one of my own this year. Not sure where his has gone but I know it was at my condo!
My fleece went to take pictures at Duke Chapel this morning in Durham, NC before sunrise.

Then went to Chapel Hill for sunrise. It is a very educated fleece.

Mine hasn't been anywhere exciting lately, but the last two times I went to my local EMS I've been stopped by customers and people working at the store, "Wow! Do you work at Mount Washington?! I've been thinking about climbing that!" I usually end up talking for about 20-30 min about the hikes I've been on, pushing StP, the Obs and encouraging them to come here for info.
Mine was out taking pictures again early this morning....
I headed out early to catch sunrise at Fearrington Village south of Chapel Hill, NC. It is a "housing development" with a small village of shops that are really nice. A wonderful place for a wedding or party. The Inn is a great place to stay and meals there are fantastic.
Here are a few of the pictures:

Nope - I seem to like the night. No people around and you can get some interesting stuff.
I have not heard yet where my fleece wants to go this weekend. Might depend on if it wants to get cold in the NC mountains. With very little layering the fleece is extremely warm even down into the teens.

My fleece needs a companion. It gets lonely traveling all by itself.
Over the past month or so my fleece has been seen in several places - St Louis for the NCAA Women's basketball semi and final games - Raleigh, NC - Popham Beach, Maine - Annapolis, Maryland - Outer Banks, NC - Beavertail Light, RI - Mattapoiset, Mass - Cambridge (Harvard Square, our fair city), Mass. It has been a tiring year - but someone had to do it all. It does need a traveling companion.

Great seeing the additional pics Erich. Was waiting each day this week for the new FB posts after the first Half Dome summit shot. Can't wait to see the rest. Sure wish I'd been there - but to the comments above:
On the Visor - would have keeled over from fright, fallen off the edge and died.
On descending the cables in rain and hail - see above.
Glad you made it back in one piece and that you, the fleece and your little blue friend had such an apparently awesome time!

I've got tons of stuff to edit, but as soon as I do I'll let everyone know. I started trying to do a little podcast type video that I'll need to edit together.
I knew I've always been somewhat afraid of height and I really had to focus to get that far out on the Visor. My buddy's went out to the end. I ended up finding out that's I'm actually VERY MUCH afraid of heights. After stepping out on the Visor we started getting some rain and needed to get on the cables quickly, or have to sit on top until the rain passed. But... more on all that later. :)
Bluedog, if you slip, I want the fleece.
It's all yours Brad! You just have to join the SAR team to come out and get it!

Incredible pictures Erich. I was just showing my wife the pics. on F/B and told her some day I would love to go there and try the cable climb. well she laughed @ me and said I got scared just trying to shinle the roof on my shed (but thats another embarising story) so how the heck woud I do that. As for the visor HELL NO. I also probably would have died there if not on the cables.
As for the fleece Brad you already have one so I want to claim it:D.
Gald you had a great time Erich and came back safe with your buddies and look forward to your report and pics.
Speaking of fleece, mine went waterskiing this morning. A bit of a chill in the air - add a nice warm fleece in between ski runs - and I was nice and warm.

Better find it soon! Maybe we should have a reunion of the fleeces for STP?! Its a given I'll be bringing mine.
Mine will at at the dinner after STP09. I am hoping we can get a red one this year. But, this has been an awesome thing. Rain, sleet, snow, wind - it works in all of them. I have even worn it on pretty hot days when taking pictures to give me extra pockets to hold things as I am shooting. I have never seen it get "wet". A wonderful jacket!
My STP08 fleece jacket saw some use yesterday in Marblehead, Mass. It went sailing for the afternoon and was ready and handy if needed. now, the STP08 Subaru hat was on almost all the time.

It would have been really nice if you could have driven it there in your new 10 Suby.
So true. But, the fleece was happy today being out taking pictures - then another boat ride across the lake for a turkey dinner - for the local library.
I was out doing real estate stuff today and when heading home stopped at a red light. On the left was a small park by a lake and a group of ladies obviously finishing up with their clean up and flower trimming. So, they had turned a pot upside down and set a camera there to take a group shot. Click. Nope, we are not all in it this time either. Let's do one more.
When the light turned green I turned into the parking lot and offered to take their picture. When we were done one lady remarked that she is a member of the Mt Washington Observatory and we all talked about the organization and how great it is.
Why would this topic come up? I was wearing my red fleece, of course.

I was up in NH a few weekends ago, and on Saturday night, went to the Bartlett Fire Company's Spaghetti Dinner - as it turned out, I was wearing my red STP fleece, and it did start a number of conversations about the observatory - including a few locals (some members, some not) who were not aware of the daytrip and edutrip opportunities, and were interested in them!

Brad did you get your car yet?!
Brad did you get your car yet?!
Kendra, not yet. The guess is auto companies cut back in the beginning of the summer when everyone was calling for gloom and doom. Then the Cash For Clunkers program hit and wiped out dealer inventories - I mean down to zero stock. So, all the dealers have been ordering cars to get inventory and the manufacturers' supply chain had been turned off (remember the gloom and doom part).
So, my order went in the beginning of August at the bottom of the pile and we do not have a VIN assigned yet. When I get that, then I know we are starting to hit manufacturing. No VIN as of now. We should be getting close though.
