With the full moon coming tomorrow, December 12th and the weekend, how about folks posting sunrise, sunset, moonrise and moonset pictures from this weekend here?

I will be trying to get some nice shots.:)

It would be fun to post whatever weather conditions allow for these pictures - whether it is a spectacular sunrise or sunset or not. Let us see what conditions are for different locations.

This allows me to hedge my bets since we all waited 30 mins at Sam's Club last night for the rain to let up enough to dash to the cars.

Snowing this morning, so no visible sunrise. Nice moon this evening, but I was late getting home, so no chance to take pics while it was low in the sky. I really need to get a decent camera to leave in the car. So many times on my commute I've seen spectacular scenes and didn't have a camera handy.

well we had a nice big moon rise tonight but i was coming home from work and no camera :mad:

I grabbed a few pictures - Raleigh, NC. It was clear when I started - then it clouded over and tried to catch both but was not very successful.

That's "not very successful?"

I was trying to get both the moon and the cool small clouds that were glowing from the light of the moon. All I could get was the moon or the moon.

BWB, thanks. I am sitting in the car right now at an overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway looking down at Asheville, NC. The full moon is coming down and I am hoping to get pictures as it gets closer to the mountains and still be before sunrise. That is the plan anyway.

I think they came out beautiful, I really love the first one.

It is late - has been a long day - and will post pictures tomorrow. Left the house in NC at 1:15AM - drove to NC mountains and stopped at an overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway - got moonset pictures which could be very cool. A quick breakfast in Asheville and in to the Biltmore Estate. There was a good line starting to form heading to the main house. So, I went over on the back side and took pictures there. As I left the line of cars was about 2-3 miles long waiting to get in. Then back up the Blue Ridge Parkway and hiked back to the gorge at Linville Falls. I have never seen so much water coming thru there before!

Then back up to a different overlook to see the moon rise from up on the mountainside - but the clouds came in while I was doing a power nap. Packed up and headed back to Durham, NC getting in around 10:30Pm A long day.

I hope others have gotten some good pictures.

Sorry for posting so many images here - but the pictures yesterday came out well. The complete set are posted at http://public.fotki.com/bradbradstreet/nc/winter/2008-12-12-weekend

The day started at 1:30AM driving west to the NC mountains. Went up the Blue Ridge Parkway to watch the full moon going over Asheville, NC

Yes, it was full. The setting moon seems to have a different orientation compared to the rising moon. Never thought about that before, but it does.

Across the valley was a ridge line. Just as the sun was hitting the top of the ridge, the full moon was coming down on the other side.

Then grabbed some breakfast and went in to the Biltmore Estate. Lots of cars going in, so I went over to the back side of the property. This is a favorite location to look at the back side of the main house.

There are neat little things around on the property - like this very narrow bridge.

A family gathered at the Biltmore from different parts of the country and wandered around the property together.

They stopped to see the view of the main house from the Lagoon.

Hmmm,nice view

Went back up on the Blue Ridge Parkway to head to Linville Falls. You can see why it is called the Blue Ridge.

Hiked back down in the gorge to get pictures of Linville Falls. There was a lot more water flowing than I had seen before. Going down was fast. Takes an hour to hike back up to the car.

I stopped on the Parkway to wait for moon rise but clouds came in. So, I headed home. A long day but it was nice.

Very nice pics Brad. Here are some of the pics I took Saturday morning. My shots of the moon don't turn out real well. I can't bring it in close enough with this lens.

Steve, the moon set is very different as can be seen from your pictures. Very nice.

These are great...full moon hiking, and shooting is always spectacular!

I was on my way to square ledge, and though I watched the moonset over the mountain, I was a bit late for a shot...oh well...

I think that they are all beautiful, you all have such good eyes for caputuring great photos.

Excellent pictures. I really enjoyed them. The Biltmore estate looks like it is almost as big as my house:D

It is pretty good size. Big enough to hold a party for sure.

Great stuff! Keep 'em coming. The moon close-ups are difficult. It's also very difficult to catch detail and sharpness of the moon while catching surrounding foreground. Nice work!

It's kind of late, but it was the only one that came out!

Took this with a Canon point-n-shoot SX10IS....handheld!
