This is about the strongest anual shower. Looks like it should peak before dawn on Saturday. Look northeastish toward Bootes and Draco.

Time to set the lake web camera in that direction and do a more frequent recording cycle. Bill O can you swing your camera in that direction too? You have a good dark camera location.

It was a bit windy, as we can see with the trees. There was a very close visit by a moose while I was enjoying the meteor shower. What a beautiful night!

Wow, what a nice shot. How the heck do you capture something like that in a picture when it moves so fast...

I know that I've asked this question before, but aren't you scared being out in the woods in the dark?

If we had brown bears...yes!

The camera is on a tripod, aperature at f/3.2, ISO1600. Compose a nice foreground and take continuous 30" exposures and hope that a meteor slices through the scene. I took about 200 exposures and got meteors on about a dozen, but some of them are dimmer, and some of the shots are not well focused because I hadn't positioned barrel perfectly ( you have to focus by lining up the barrel of the lens and not the normal visual way ).

There are black bears up there though, right? Aren't they dangerous?

Only Patrick would be visited by both moose and meteors at the same time. These are really awesome pictures. Capturing the night sky framed over the pine trees like this is always beautiful but the addition of the meteors make it truly amazing. Great stuff!
