Fun hike up....J and I got to Under Mountain Trail just past noon....quite a few cars in the lot. Parking lot was rather icy, so happy to have the spikes

We started up the UMT, then turned to hike the North Side....complete ice and snow...very fun....we kept running into a group of about 15 or students, looked like they were doing a long hike....big packs and sleeping gear,

Once we got to the AT, we meet up with a couple that advised us that the trail ahead was very icy, very steep....trust the spikes. They were right. J had to help me up a rather icy section right before the summit. At the summit there were 3 people chillin, we talked about Everett and Race, and turns out some of them were from New Haven.

On the way down, we took the South Side....easy jaunt down...met another duo heading up....amazing how many people didn't have spike or poles....on the S. Side no worries, but we advised to avoid the North.

Great hike, great training, and now I am more than ready for pasta and Tuckermans.

Sounds like you had a great time. I always enjoyed Bear Mt. Haven't hiked it for years though.
