But I am getting fitter! My buds and I did Beacon & South Beacon (in NY) yesterday...and besides the hellish first mile....I didn't have any pain whilst hiking.....while others lagged, I was doing great.

Gonna get (hopefully) 2 or 3 more small peaks in (and other, easier hikes) before the May MWN hike, but I think I am gonna do well this year :)

So true, the best training for hiking is hiking, but I think the gym helps out as well, haha

I'm getting back into a training regime myself. Will be hiking 3 miles every other day with a large pack on and boots. When that gets easy I'll double that to 6, then go from there. I've been on a strict diet lately too, mostly liquid and eating one solid meal a day, taking vitamins to supplement. Feels good to be getting back into 'long haul' shape :)
