I saw the fire warning on my weather app yesterday morning. I thought it was strange because of the wet ground from snow melting, but with the high winds and warm(ish) days, I guess stuff is drying out on the surface.
Last night there was an 11 alarm fire in Alton Bay, burned 40 homes

Nastiness. At least no one was around this time of year. Would have been much worse in the middle of summer.

It's amazing what damage can be done in April when the trees provide no shade, the air happens to be extremely dry, the ground is warm, and the winds are high.
I was struck by the weather contrasts the past weekend: the terrible sodden downpours of Saturday, the winds rushing in all day Sunday (and into Monday) as the low pressure system exited. I get a lot of wind at my house on a hill in Gloucester, Mass.!

What a shame. I bet a lot of those houses weren't insured for nearly the replacement cost. Lot of family history went up in smoke there. :(
Thanks as always for the pics, Kirk. The panos really give a good view of the scene there.
