If you haven't put two and two together yet I'm sorry to have to break the news.

The new movie "Earth" uses footage from the tv mini-series "Planet Earth."

It has been trimmed down to 90 minutes, Sigourney Weaver was dumped for James Earl Jones, and of course it is on the big screen.

If you've seen Planet Earth don't expect any new footage, just a new format. Either way, what was a great tv series will look great on the big screen.

The Planet Earth mini series was originally narrated by David Attenborough in the UK original, when Discovery got it for the US market, they used Sigourney Weaver as the narrator.

Earth consists of footage from the Planet Earth series, plus some additional footage they held back specifically for the movie. The movie came out in 2007!

Patrick Stewart was the UK narrator, but again, they changed it for the US market.

So, it's "new" here, but the movie has been around for 2 years already.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I have watched the mini series in high def, and it's well worth getting.

btw: if you want another series to rent, that focuses more on the culture/people but also the environment, the Michael Palin series (there's quite a few) Pole to Pole, Around the World in 80 Days, Full Circle, Sahara, etc are interesting.
