Hi, I am planning on climbing Mt. Washington with a friend in late may. We are both very experienced and have climbed many times in july/august and January-March.
I have no idea what to expect in late may though! will we need winter equipment? thanks!!

Tuckerman Ravine (bowl only) will likely be closed to hikers at that time.
All other trails should be snow free. Unless of course May has heavy snowfall.

I recently did a climb, not Mt. Washington but same area ( up flume slide over to Librety summit then down librety springs)
When leaving the trailheads it was solid ground with no snow. So, I nearly left my crampons / axe in my car, but after getting up around 3000 feet there was still quite a bit of snow (clearly metling) and I seriously doubt that I'd of summited flume withount my crampons
Anywasy, I'd say it really depends on how late in may + how the warm of a spring. So, I'd keep checking in here to look at peoples trip reports / pics
Good luck, I hope you make that summit!
