Tuckerman Adventure 4/23/09

O.K., so it wasn,t exactly a bluebird day.

But, this was a wonderful trip for me, my father who is eighty-four, my son who is sixteen and my daughter who is eleven.

This one we will never forget!

We were hoping to hike and ski the "Bowl" and also ski down The Sherburne.

As we began we knew hiking into Tuckerman Ravine Bowl was not going to happen. High Avalanche Warnings for the "Bowl" were clearly posted.

The decision was made to hike to Hermit Lake and ski The John Sherburne Ski Trail as far as we could.

It was a rainy start but it all turned into a winter wonderland above 3000ft.

We hiked through a nice cushion of snow until we reached Hermit Lake Shelter. Approximately 8 to 10 inches of powder covered the area and the beginning of The Shurburne. The wind was out of the north at about forty plus.

This was a fun day!

Certainly, a strong reminder to never underestimate this mountain.

This was a day that My Dad, my son and my daughter will not soon forget.

What a terrific learning experience it was for us all.
