I thought you might be interested in knowing about an upcoming program at the Weather Discovery Center. This is not an Obs event (it's sponsored by the North Conway Public Library), but it will be hosted here at the WDC and the presentation is by an Observatory Trustee and his spouse.

The North Conway Library invites you to a slide show on hummingbirds on Wednesday, May 13th, at the Mount Washington Observatory Weather Discovery Center.

Ed and Kathy Bergeron will entertain you with amazing slides of hummingbirds from their trips to Canada and Arizona.

They visited areas that are in the migration flight route where several species were present. There will be photos of Blackchin, Calliope, Rufus, Broadbill, Anna's and Lucifer birds.

The techniques used included flash strobe photography to stop the action of the birds' wings, and natural light which used fast shutter speeds to capture the birds in flight.

Hummingbirds are small, fast and a challenge to capture in photos. Both techniques yielded some amazing results.

Please join us for an evening of beautiful nature photography at the Mount Washington Observatory Weather Discovery Center in North Conway Village on Wednesday, May 13th at 7:00 pm. There is no charge for this event and refreshments will be served, including coffee and sweets from Frontside Grind!
