Not exactly a hiking thread, but from what I have read, these little guys with the big mouths and sharp teeth are starting to make themselves known again for the season.

A very interesting and informative article. Black flies are apparently a necessary nusiance in nature for us humans. You won't find us hiking in New Hampshire during "black fly" season though, after a bad experience a few years ago.:eek: And I am sure that there are others out there who would agree.

I've learned to love the little beasts by reminding myself that they are a necessary part of the blueberry's life cycle. Am I way off base? Don't black flies pollinate our blueberry crop? I keep telling myself, they have to be good for something!!!
