I feel we needed a sunrise and sunset thread. So I decided to start one. So come on everybody and post some shots.
These were taken @ Horseneck Beach at sunset on Memorial Day weekend.

Fantastic shots Mark. You definetly covered alot of ground. From Maine to the Grand Canyons.
Mark,
You keep on making me want to get up to Bar Harbor for sunrise! Maybe this is the summer I will do it.
One of the nice things about the Outer Banks of NC is within a short distance you can get sunrise (over water) and sunset (over water).
Here is a sunrise

Mark,

Make it the third week of August and we can go together. We'll be camping there again then and I can never get anyone to get up and go to the top of Cadillac for sunrise with me.
You might just have a partner for this. I was out the door this morning at 2:30 to get to Nubble Light for sunrise. Have not checked the pictures yet, but there could be some interesting ones.
I made a note that you be there Aug 16 thru 22nd. Are those dates right?

I have run out of space on my 2nd hard disk in my laptop. So, I am copying all those files off and then will restore them onto a bigger (160GB) drive. So, getting the pictures is a bit slow today.

One more White Mountains sunrise I came across while sorting through photos this week. It's actually one of my favorite sunrise shots (perhaps for the memories it brings back). Not as dramatic as many others but in this case I think less is more...

Cris if brad had it his way he would have every one in the boat ready at 4am for sunrise . but there are not to many people that like getting up to go at 6:30:rolleyes: when he pushes them ,they say 7 :D
7AM is my compromise time for leaving the dock. We used to leave at 5:15AM - but, the current set of folks just don't want to do that. Actually with the conditions we have been having the best conditions have been between 7Am and 9AM.
So, I was up this morning - saw the sunrise starting to form - raced down to the dock to get the pictures - then fed and walked the dog - dealt with pictures on the computer - then was on the dock ready to leave when the boat arrived for skiing. Yes, the conditions were excellent. Other folks do not start to ski in the morning till around 4th of July. So, we are the only boat out there right now.
This is not a sunset or sunrise picture - it is a full moon rise. Well, it would be if you could see the full moon behind the clouds.
So, I took a 2 minute exposure to see what I would get.

Wow - talk about a jolt back to reality. Not just the contrast of mountain sunrises and sunsets and NE temperatures to the desert and 133 degrees () - but to what we are living in vs. what he is obviously living in. Thanks for sharing the image Kathy and for the needed jolt. The Boston sunset picture reminded me of the ones I took out at a lagoon by Fort Independence last month. There were several kite boarders out and with the breakwater you could line up your shots well. Here are a couple:

Thank you Mark for those kind words. I didn't post it to bring anyone down, it's just such a difference of what we normally see. You can just tell how heavy the air is and how hot. My nephew should be home by the end of August, this is his second tour there. His brother was also a Marine who did two tours, he completed his four years a year and a half ago and now he is back to regular life. I just pray to God they don't get called back.

Ummm ok, that's enough posts about the Yankees in here! ;)
One aspect of sunrise and sunset pictures which is common is - the sun. We have been doing the rising and setting part. Today we have a sun which was on vacation for about 6 weeks. Nice to have it back.
Tomorrow is full moon. Knowing I am busy at that time, I went out on the dock (that is covered with water since the lake level is so high) and got some pictures tonight. The loons were calling loud and clear the whole time.

Beautiful shots! Makes you wish that the sunrises and sunsets would last a little longer than they do.
They do happen fast and you have to be ready and lined up before the action starts - and then it is over.
Last night I went to Moose Pond (west of Bridgton, Maine and east of Fryeburg) to take pictures of the moon rising from the causeway. As things changed I was able to pack up and drive along the causeway to line up for the next shot.
This is one of the last pictures I took (and it is the one picture I was hoping to get). The moon glow is reflecting off the lake by the small island out in the pond.

Thanks you guys! Glad to share them on here.
Today we did not have far to go to see a wonderful sunset picture. The West camera grabbed a beautiful one.

Just as we got off exit 35-Rte 93N, this last Thursday evening, I pulled over to take this shot. The next morning we did our first ascent up to Mt. Washington. Those pictures are still to come.

Wow, that's a nice sunset. I like how the clouds seem to be swirling in.
Look forward to seeing your pictures and reading your TR. Hope you had a great first ascent.
Very nice sunset. I can see why you pulled over.
Here is a sunrise picture I took the other day that came out well.
