Based on recommendations from on high (Ryan said today would be best) we headed to the Auto Road today and took the kids up to the summit of Mt Washington. 3/4rds of the way up we were in and out of the clouds. But, at the summit it was mostly clear with clouds all around us. It turned out to be a nice day up there.

Pictures are at http://public.fotki.com/bradbradstreet/travels/2009/2009-06-30-mt-washington/

There were cloud banks rolling in all the time.

There is one picture which might need some explaining. Gutter + soda bottle + hose = what?

Well, rain gutters collect water, the end of the gutter has an opening the water flows to. The hose carrys the water down into a bucket at the base of the ladder. The bottle was a ghetto fix to connect the rain gutter with the hose since we do not have a hardware store near us. We do not want to use gutter tubing to drain the water as it wouldn't tie off to the stairs very well. The rain gutter is there because it is attached to a shelf just below our parapet door. Rain leaks in slowly in the summer and in the winter, snow falls off our boots onto the shelf and then melts and used to drip into the cold room. Now, the gutter drains it into one location that we can empty when needed.

And you thought I would not notice.

Actually, I have given plenty of tours where people actually thought that it was some sort of scientific instrument; no joke. To watch their faces as you explain what a rain gutter does: priceless.

I am trying to be quiet here in the house as others are up no yet - and I just burst out laughing.
