Congratulations to Kevin Talbot for his excellent photo of Mount Washington from Lake of the Clouds on the cover of the Summer 2009 issue of Windswept!
Good Job!
Kevin, what can you tell us about the photo?

Wow! Thanks!

It took a while, but many emails and pictures later Marty Basch, editor for Widswept, chose this one. Honestly, we had exchanged so many photos and ideas trying to reflect different seasons and situations, when it finally appeared I didn't recognize it as mine at first! :)

I took this one on the Crawford Path July 3rd, 2005. I hiked the entire CP to the summit of Washington, crossing each summit along the way as well, Pierce, Franklin, Little Monroe, Monroe and finally Washington, rather than skirting the summits as the Crawford Path does. It was a long day! We descended by Trinity Heights/Gulfside/Jewell Trails. My older brother in law hasn't hiked in the mountains much since then. We say this hike "Did him in."

We had a beautiful July day. I snapped this shot at the northern Lakes of the Clouds as we were passing. Originally it was a horizontal shot, but is cropped to fit the vertical cover of Windswept. This hike was the first day I shot digital in the mountains with my (then) new Nikon 8800. I'm still shooting with it today. I find it easier to work with on the trail than my D80.

Thanks again, everyone for the kind comments, and thanks to Marty for choosing one of my photos, and thanks to the Obs for being such a great organization!

Got mine today. Cover photo is great! Did the usual skim through and now will go back and savor each article. Noticed that there's a piece by Eric Pinder (the ex-observer and author of the "Nin book" that has a book signing in N. Conway on Friday). I just finished his book "Tying Down the Wind" and it's a great read. I'm looking forward to getting the autographed book on Friday as well as reading his other books about life on the mountain.

Blame the post office. They suck. Believe me when I tell you. Meet me for Strange Brews tomorrow night and I'll let you see mine.
