View Full Version : Fall pictures
Today I drove around the WMNF and a few other places looking for fall colors. I found some, but more importantly, I found several places which will be really good as the color peaks.
The drive was - Bridgton, Maine - Conway and across the Kanc to Lincoln - north on route 3 to Indianhead Resort - The Basin - views of Cannon Mt - route 302 to Mt Washington Hotel - Cog Base Station - Jefferson Notch Road (9 mile gravel road which is cool) - route 2 east to route 16 north to Errol (drive along the river is wonderful) - south on route 26 by Lake Umbagog - thru Grafton Notch State Park - Bethel - and back home to Bridgton.
Most of the color was on route 26 in Grafton Notch. But, you could see it starting in other places. One of the pictures I like is

I heard a bit of a broadcast on the radio that a footbridge will be taken down starting on Monday. I am thinking it is the Lincoln Woods footbridge. Can anyone confirm this?
In case it is the one, I snapped a picture today

Nice pictures Brad. I love the birches in the Fall. Nice one of the river too with a bit of color starting to show. Looking forward to seeing lots of nice Fall images over the next few weeks on this thread. Thanks for getting it going.

It's not that one Brad. There's a discussion on VFTT that talks about which one it is.

It's really unfortunate that they are removing that bridge. It makes the only option for crossing the river (other than at Lincoln Woods) the stepping stones near Franconia Falls and that isn't an option at high water. Pretty much leaves just a single option for an exit on that side of the Pemi and makes the Franconia Falls tentsite pretty much accessible only from the east side trail from Lincoln Woods.

The radio report was sure confusing.

Like Snow Miser, I can't wait to see everyone's fall photos. I love them so much, it's my absolute favorite time of the year. :D
Nice shots brad...indeed, not long now. I was going to drive north today and shoot, but your shots convinced me not to. Not enough color yet...and I'm tired after the week I've had. Will shoot a local bog tomorrow, and look forward to northern peak next weekend?!?!
Jim, that is probably a good plan. I am not even sure about next weekend. Maybe things will move that quickly.

The water is still very warm (which is so nice about Fall) so there is no chance of ice.

I don't have to go far to watch the seasons change, just out to my dock. (I do have to put up with the neighbors dogs, though.)

Nice to watch the seasons change out your own back door - particularly in such a spectacular fashion. Beautiful pictures Kevin.
I can see that Kevin has to rough. Some people pay a lot extra for a wonderful view.
maybe pictures of the Fryeburg Fair qualify as fall pictures. This is a team of draft horses pulling a weighted sled.

Fantastic pictures Brad and Kevin. We just got back and I have to down load my pics. then I will have some up. I know I will never plan on going North again on a holiday weekend. Traffic was crazy and trying to get in a lot on the Kang. was petty impossible.

Ha - it must have been busy out there. On the way back from church I stopped at Hemlock Bridge to see what I could get.

Jim, if you were on Moat, my guess is the flat top mountain to the left of the sunrise and the lake to its SW is Pleasant Mt in West Bridgton. Then the lake would be Lovewell Pond. We are on the other side of Pleasant Mt.

No I did not do any hiking this trip. But I will say I will never plan a get away on a holiday weekend again. Way to many people. I even had a hard time getting in to some of the parking areas on the Kanc.
Thanks for the compliments everybody.

All great shots Brad. The classic New England church picture really captures the essence of our beautifal Fall season here.
The pictures of that snow on the summit of Mt Washington make me want to drag out my skis and take them to be sharpened!

Great shots Brad. That is a really good reflection you captured.
Several weeks ago I met a fellow taking pictures - we chatted (about MWO as well as photography) and then connected on Facebook. He does a lot of reflection shots which are very cool. So, I tried to capture one yesterday on the Old Saco River by the Hemlock Bridge (a covered bridge). The water was moving fast - plenty of shadows to deal with and reflections of the trees on the other shore.
Switched the lens to IS #2 for panning and got this.

This shot is my very first ever panorama shot. I went out Sunday morning for a coffee (addicted to DD) and swung by a fort I live near and walked around back that is over looking the water. I had to hand hold because I did not have my tripod.
Hopefully it came out ok.
