This is the view from the top of the Observatory Tower on the summit (of Mt. Washington of course)! The tour was awesome and I want to thank Mike F. (my tour guide)[ http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/k7h7sH-xxlsbetpVRVJ1Ig?authkey=Gv1sRgCLOg7uzs06SgCw&feat=directlink ] for the tour and for answering all of my questions.

The tour alone is worth the price of membership (and they even have a special 6 month membership deal going on now). I was pleasantly surpirised that they let me climb around on the tower and take pictures...and took some of me too. Not your usual run-of-the-mill-country-club tour.

PS now I'll have to think about doing STP next year.

I have done the tour many times and always hear something new. It is fun to hike up with a group and be able to get the folks in for the tour. One hike with my grandson on his first summit of MW Jim Salge gave us the tour and Dakota was all ears and a big smile. The Observers have the ability to tailor the information to the folks on the tour and they do a wonderful job.

Jim - "with this wind gust we could have tied rope to your arms and legs and flown you like a kite".

Wait, so how much is it to be a member? A tour would be cool next time around (since I'm sure I'll be back on that monster again next summer!) I should do it anyway.

Tons of rime ice on the summit that morning. The towers (TV and radio) were covered in thick ice that was falling off in the morning sun. I awoke to temps in the 20's and Mike's temp reading at around 8:00am was just above freezing.
