People visiting this forum might remember that last spring I said I was planning to move from Gloucester, Mass. to somewhere in northern NH due to a change in personal circumstances and the fact that I have a home-based business that I can do from anywhere. Well, after much long and arduous thinking on the subject, I finally decided that instead I would go back to a place where I lived in the 80s, the Smoky Mountains.
It has to do with the particular culture of off-trail hiking in the Smokies that is shared by a few people down there. We like to rockhop up streams with cascades and waterfalls, and explore through forests of giant trees and dense rhododendron. Basically, we are nutcases. :)
I will really miss the northern landscape, the vast spruce-fir forests, the lakes, the ravines, the shapes carved out by glaciers. I do plan to come back for some hikes! And I will continue to be a member of the Obs and to visit this forum and chat about White Mountain hikes from my new home in western North Carolina.
So, we'll stay in touch!
