With the recent snow storms we now have winter upon us. And Mt Washington is covered in white.

Here is a view of Mt Washington this morning from Bridgton, Maine.

We hiked back to HoJo's this morning. As the clouds came down the trees were coated in frost. It was really beautiful out there.

We had a pouring rainstorm here last night that washed away all of our beautiful snow.

For most of the morning it rained too.Cleaning up the yard wasn't accomplished until later on in the day.As I was picking up I noticed that the sun was setting and the sky was becoming an amazing array of colors with different cloud formations. The following pictures are what I was able to capture.

I won't even attempt to explain each picture.I'm sure someone on the forums will be able to tell us what different types of clouds we're looking at.

Hope you enjoy the sunset from our front yard:

As I returned to the backyard I saw the moon rising up over our elm tree:

Considering the wake-up weather this morning the ending sure was pretty.Winter can be very beautiful.

Hope I brought a little brightness into the end of everyone's Holiday weekend for them.Take care.

I love the pictures of Mystic Village Kathy. A couple of these causes me to have flashbacks. The one of the pond with the ducks and the one with the waterwheel are almost identical to a couple of black and white versions that I took (also in winter) in 1976 there. Still looks pretty much the same.

Brad, the second one is a really cool looking picture, but all nice as always.

The pond is right outside of my favorite spot to eat, Go Fish. I absolutely LOVE their NE Clam Chowder, I stop there when I can to get some. This time of year, it's decorated so pretty inside, very warm and New England.

Anna, not so sure about a card, but thank you. It was cold, I was only out there a few minutes and took a few shots.

The sunset one is from my hotel room on the 21st floor of Foxwoods...:D

I went to S. Freeport harbor this morning for sunrise, then over to Wolfe's Neck Park on the eastern side of Freeport on the ocean. A couple of wonderful spots only an hour and a half away from the cabin.

As I arrived at the docks in S Freeport the car headlights lit up the floating docks. So, I left the car running and snapped a few pictures.

http://images18.fotki.com/v674/photos/5/8235/8223224/IMG_5535a-vi.jpg

Sunrise came up over Wolfe's Neck and I shot it from the deck of the Harraseeket Lobster place (wonderful place for lunch in the summer).

Sunday here at home was one of those beautiful Winter days.We decided to take a walk along the Taunton River down behind our home.

As we were headed out the birds seemed to be looking down on us from their lofty perch saying"Feed Me! Feed Me!"

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2776/4264699478_47da58bb4b_b.jpg

This one little chubby sparrow seems to be getting more then his share of the birdseed that I put out every day:

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4038/4263930755_a75b79c59b.jpg

The marshgrass and snow along the river's edge looked very pretty in the changing light:

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4064/4263870247_a83dc911be_b.jpg

Looking at these can you feel the breeze?

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4070/4263910195_ff29eab9b3.jpg

There were some interesting cloud formations overhead.A stairway to heaven?

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2772/4263921219_e958bfb798.jpg

And as we headed for home, down on the river were the icy reflections of the fading daylight:

Well, I saw him - and several others at an undisclosed location on the NH-Maine border. I used a wide angles lens because he was so close. I had a couple of zoom lens with me and did not use them.

The full set of photos are at http://public.fotki.com/bradbradstreet/travels/2010/2010-01-13-loki-clan/

Loki Clan Wolf Refuge is a place where vets and animal shelters across the country send wolf-dog mix animals to be protected. Some are so wild you can not get near the fence. Others are okay once they get to know you. I have been there several times and this was my second chance to go in a couple of pens. Actually went in a pen this time I could not go in the last visit. One of the wolves was moved out of the pen and that left a mini-pack that was okay with visitors.

They are beautiful animals and the refuge does a wonderful job trying to protect them.

What seems to happen is the animals are bought by people and 3-6 months later they realize they are over their heads - these are wild animals. Then they get sent to Fred to prevent them from being put down.

Wednesday's are my day off so after running around and doing errands all day I decided to grab my camera and head down our street to the bridge that divides out town Dighton from Somerset.

It looked like it would be a nice sunset so I stood out there with my hands freezing (SnowMiser would have loved it!!)

While I waited for the sun to go down I heard the cry of a lonely gull:

A house guest and I walked out on the lake for sunset. In some places the ice was feather thin -then an air pocket - then the 18" of solid ice below. As we walked over the feather thin sections our boots broke through. I turned and got this shot.

http://images115.fotki.com/v663/photos/5/8235/8223224/IMG_6193a-vi.jpg

Every once in a while you would see a small chunk of ice sitting out on the smooth ice like

http://images44.fotki.com/v1417/photos/5/8235/8223224/IMG_6207a-vi.jpg

As the sun went down the glow was not only in the sky.

http://images54.fotki.com/v552/photos/5/8235/8223224/IMG_6223a-vi.jpg

As we started to walk back home there were a set of rocks coming out from an island. As the lake water level had gone down, the ice was pushed up by the rocks causing this sight.

Well, this kind of looks like a winter picture even though it is spring.

I was looking at a house on Lake Sebago in Maine today that is for sale. There is an old cabana by the docks and decks. On the roof is a sitting area with a fantastic view of the lake and Mt Washington off to the west.

I ran back to the car for my camera to grab this picture.

I really think some of the best views of Mt Washington are from Maine. In NH there are things in the way (other mountains) and there are few wide open spots to see the mountain or the full range. From the lakes in Maine the view spots are all over the place.

Okay, I am starting to look for a place for you two. If you assign months to use the property - and alternate - and no one uses it in March (Mud Season) - then each year the months will swap between you. So, having a major house for who ever has the month - and a guest house for the other, should work just fine. I will start doing up the paperwork for you.
