We're about half way to our goal of 250 new members (http://www.mountwashington.org/membership). Thank you to all of our members, new and old. Once we reach 250, we will make the new Presidential Webcam public. The attached image is a half-sized taste of what you will see from this new camera. It was captured this morning at 7AM.

In addition to the public image, members will have access to this Premium Content:

-Four close-up images of the Presidential Range
-Daily sunset timelapse video

If the reaction from our members is positive, we will consider adding more:

-Daily sunrise timelapse video
-High resolution Presidential panoramic image

Of course, members already have access to the extra images and timelapse movies from our other webcams (http://www.mountwashington.org/weather/cam/). If you like what you see, and want to see more, please join (http://www.mountwashington.org/membership). Thank you.

I don't know why, but when jpg's are posted as this one is I can't access it. I get a message I am not logged in or I do not have permission to accsess this page. As far as I know I have full access priveleges. Could it have to do with me being on a Mac and using Safari? Any techies that can explain this?

KD,

There are 2 different things playing here. One is that Premium content is only available if you have logged into the MWO web site. That is tied to you My Account and membership number.

The 2nd thing here is for the forum you need an ID and password to post messages. These are 2 different things and the IDs can and probably are different. A non-member can participate on the forums.

The image above is an attachment and is posted on the forum. If the forum software is working right anyone should be able to see it whether you have an ID on the forum or not - or even if you are not logged onto the forum.

So, if you can not view the attached JPG above either there is a software problem with the foum software - or it is a MAC thing. This has nothing to do with logging into the MWO site as a premium member.

I think Kevin was actually talking about the photo Mike attached in this thread. I'm not sure what's going on there. It's just a jpeg, and any browser should be able to open it. This is not part of the protected content from the MWO site. Kevin, ever try Firefox for Mac? It's great, much more compatible than Safari.

BTW...great teaser shot. This morning's sunrise was awesome.

I am always logged in, so it's not that. It must be a Safari thing. will try Firefox and get back to you. Thanks.

OK Firefox lets me see the jpg. Very nice! It is very small, though. Is it the same for you guys? I still have to be logged in to view it which is no problem but seems to contradict what Brad is saying.

Yes, the image is smaller than normal. Mike D said it was "half sized".

I have to log back in to see the premium content every time I restart Firefox. It is a pain.

Right now we are at 189 new members. Only 61 places left for folks to take to say you helped turn on the new camera! Step up and take one of the few remaining places.

Is Firefox clearing your private data every time you close out? It seems that if I clear my history I have to log back in.

This morning I rebooted my system and went into Firefox and did not have to re-log into My Account. Something was different today.

36 new members left till the new camera gets turned on .....

22 places in history left now. The 250 new members will always be able to say it was their memberships which brought on the new camera. Get them while they are hot - scratch that - while they are cold.

235 new members have signed up. 15 places left to go. Get one fast before it goes for all time.

The comments have been updated - only 6 more to go and the new camera will be turned on. Summit will probably be in the clouds and fog so we may not see much.

It looks like it takes a good weather event to stoke the fires of prospective members to get them to join.

It is nice to see both happening.

Okay folks we are rolling. If you want to see the current day's Presidentials image as it is saved at my archive site, that is now on too.

Plus, you can find ALL the Presidentials images in the 2007 Saved folder going back to when it was turned on January 17th, 2007.

You can find these at the MWO link below.

I have seen some of the sunset videos from the new Presidentials camera. They are really cool (pun intended). When we get some clear-er days they will be fun to watch.

Also I have seen a few of the zoomed in images. One was the other day as they were adjusting the camera. It clearly showed Lakes of the Clouds hut. Amazing quality.

The sunset video that was just posted is really nice. Clouds rolling by - the summit goes in the clear for a split second!

The videos I like I save for later. I am sure I will give up on that when I have too many ...

take a look at last night's Presidential sunset video. It switched to a close up of Eisenhower's peak! You can almost see folks up there ...

Take a look at last night's sunset video from the Presidentials camera! As the shade traveled over to the summit the colors changed then the peak went pink for a second. So nice.

Those videos are great. The colors seem to pulse as the atmospheric optics are ever changing during sunset.

The West camera video this morning is cool - who is walking around in sight?
