Since there have been a couple of good forum enhancements this week (the "Thanks" button and the mobile skin) I thought I'd share one more tip on making forum reading easier. I've been using this for quite a while and probably should have shared it before.

I used to use the "Quick Links -> Today's Posts" feature all the time to see the most recent threads for the day. The problem is that when you read a thread and scroll to the bottom you have to either use the "back" button to go back to the list (which only works if you haven't replied to the thread or gone to an additional page) or you have to scroll back to the top and then open the Quick Links menu and select the Today's Posts again. There's an easier way...

Create a link/bookmark in your links bar, bookmark bar (depending on which browser you're using) called something like "OBS Today" and use this for the URL: http://www.mountwashington.org/forums/search.php?do=getdaily

You can then click this link in your link bar from whereever you are and get to the Today's Posts page directly. If you spend as much time on the forums as I do it makes life easier...

Why not just use the New Posts (http://www.mountwashington.org/forums/search.php?do=getnew) link in the middle of the menubar. That will show you all the threads with new posts since the last time you visited. Clicking on the down arrow to the left of the thread title brings you to the first unread post.

I don't see a down arrow to the left of a thread title that will take me to the first unread post, like in the full version.

For the most part I agree hobbes. The thing I like about the other link is that it shows all current day posts and not just the unread ones. In theory this doesn't matter since I don't need to revisit the others anyway. I still prefer the OBS Today link bar method though since I never have to scroll to the top of the page to get to the New Posts link on the menubar. I also use the OBS Today link to get straight to that view in the forums when I open a new tab in the browser. Perhaps not a big savings but it's reflex for me now.

Bob - It appears to me that the mobile skin automatically goes to the first unread post when you open a thread. I need to spend more time with it and test.
