I will be hiking the Presidential Range this up coming weekend and I was wondering what are your thoughts on wearing soft shell pants or should I just stick to the hard shell pants? I guess another option would be to wear the soft shell on the ascent and then at the top throw on a wind breaker type of pants to protect me from the wind. Right now for soft shell pants I have the NORTH FACE Men's Apex Big Wall Wind Pants (http://www.ems.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3647306&cp=3707807.3735105.3793943). I'm planning on wearing a EMS Techwick Midweight base layer with a spare layer in my backpack for sleeping in or throwing on as backup.
