This last hike for our winter trip would be one of our favorites.
As we have seen on other hikes this week, blow downs were seen on the trail.
This one was especially large.

Along the way to the summit our imaginations took hold as we saw snow formations that looked like animals.

Here is a sitting gorilla.

A saber tooth tiger.

A parrot.

Our snowshoes made the hike a quick jaunt up the Old Path to South Doublehead. Actually, we had forgotten how steep the last 6 tenths mile up to the col was.
As we entered the open ledge a magnificent panorama of mountains appeared before us.

We took our snowshoes off and had some snacks and took pictures.

Here is Big George.

The cold air kept zapping the juice out my camera batteries, so I had to keep putting the camera back under my jacket for warmth.
Donna made a misstep and found a spruce trap. TWICE!

Here are two HAPPY HIKERS!

Two hikers from Maine arrived and joined us on the ledge. We had a nice conversation about hiking in Maine and New Hampshire. We stayed awhile longer as they made their way to North Doublehead.

Heading back down to the col, we once again encountered the two hikers and once more conversed about our love of hiking these mountains.

Even though we didn?t hike a 4,000 footer, we found many spots, old and new, which culminated a great week of hiking in the White Mountains.

Thank you all for joining us on our winter trip to the White Mountains.
