Four Summits On the Quiet Side of Mt. Desert Island 6/8/10

After hiking Cadillac Mountain, we were looking to hike where the trails are much less traveled. Upon checking our map, we discovered a loop that would take us over 4 summits on the quiet side of Acadia ; 2 (Valley Peak and Flying Mountain) of which we had not hiked before.
Arriving at the trailhead for Acadia Mountain, at 10:40 am, we began the loop clockwise heading for St. Sauveur Mountain.

Fine views of Somes Sound and neighboring islands came into view.

Our next destination, Valley Peak, seemed to take no time at all to reach.

Continuing on we reached Flying Mountain and were awarded more outstanding views.

Along the beach at Valley Cove we came upon 2 hikers from Portland Maine, who inquired what city we were from. When we told them Baltimore, they immediately asked if we had watched The Wire; that was there impression of Baltimore. For those of you not familiar with the show it was a HBO series that took place in Baltimore revolving around drugs and political corruption in the city.

The trail to this point had been easy but became a little more challenging from this point on.

Arriving at Acadia Mountain a little before 4 pm we came across the only other people of the day; a couple of avid New England hikers from N. Conway, NH; Earl (who is 84 years young) and his wife Linda.

As we said our goodbyes, the skies gave way to a quick shower hastening our departure down the mountain and back to our car.

It was a delightful six mile loop on the ?quiet side? of Acadia National Park.:)
