Going up there Thanksgiving Day. The three of us have a few questions we hope someone could answer.
1) Best trail?? Not many to pick from. We'll probably go out of Pinkham.
2) Is there a Caretaker?
3) Do they start a fire just in the main hut, but not the bunkhouses??
Any info on cold weather Carter would be great.
Thanks

1.) Unless you want to carry your gear over the Wildcats the best way in is 19 Mile Brook Trail.
2.) Yes.
3.) Fire in main hut only.
4.) Better have a sleeping bag rated for 0 degrees or colder in November, though you could hit nice weather it is not likely.

Thanks.
We're kinda hoping to have the place to ourselves.

What about a Carter Notch in Feb or March toward the end of winter? What bag rating do you think I should consider? I don't know since I've never stayed at any of the huts in winter.

For all intents and purposes you're sleeping outside. OK, you've got walls to block the wind but there's no heat in the bunkhouse at all. I think on the AMC led winter trips to the huts they recommend at least a -20 bag.

According to the new AMC mag there is a planned trip the 26th -28th, don't know your exact plans, but you won't be alone over the weekend if that's what you meant. 8 )

No, just Turkey Day and night. We should be good. But thank you for the heads up.
