Let's see if there is a date in February where we could have an informal get together in NJ. Could we do Saturday, February 19th at 1:00 PM somewhere convenient? Is this date okay? Are folks interested? Who would be able to come?

Where can we meet?

mrohssler

Sounds good. What does everybody think of Spring Valley Ny. It is right on the Jersey Border off of the Garden State Parkway, NY Thruway and Interstate 287. May be doable for folks in western Mass, upstate NY and even North East Penn as well as New Jersey and New England

Brad

1. What is there for a meeting place?

2. Can the Philly folks make it to this location? Or do we need to be further south in NJ?

I'm in!! And that Saturday is Perfect!!

I'm in too!! That Saturday is open for me. Kathy, do you have any suggestions for places we can meet in the Spring Valley area or nearby?

mrohssler

There is a red lobster in nanuet that used to be good. (I used to have cousins that lived in Monsey and we used to go there.) Been a while though so I hope it is still good. Unless someone knows of a better place. A good Deli that could handle a big group would be cool.

I really never go up that way other then to drive 287 to get north. I am doing a search, if the weather isn't too bad here on Saturday, me and my taller half will venture up that way with a list of places to check out. I don't see too much in Spring Valley itself, it's a small town, but Nanuet and Nyack are right next door that seem to have more options. I did find an Irish pub we will probably check out, I Like Irish Pubs... :D

A co-worker of mine suggested two places, but both are closed, one for renevations and one for the season....:(
But he said that he will bring a book in with local places.

mrohssler: There is a Red Lobster up that way, I looked it up.

Thanks for doing the research Kathy! An Irish Pub or Red Lobster is just fine with me. I love all types of food, so I'm open to any place. Well, maybe not Burger King. :D

I was just talking to the manager Mike from the EMS in Nanuet. First he said that they would love to send a rep to our get together if we can give him a date and time. Also we talked about places. He said the Red lobster is good and also there is a place called the nanuet restaurant on middletown rd. He also was talking about Dave and Busters, I have seen ads but have never been but it looked cool especially if kids will be coming. What does everyone think?

Snow Miser

Dave and Busters sounds good to me. We have one here in Philly, but have never checked it out. People do rave about it though.

Charlie

Brad

I am not a fan of Red Lobster. I did eat at one in December - so, I am all set for another 13 years.

KathyC

LOL, that's funny Brad. I just ate at Red Lobster this past Saturday, the last time was about 14 years ago. I'm good for a while too..

Dave and Busters would be easy to find, it's in the Palisades Park Mall, 3rd Flr. It's right on RT 287, can't miss it.

Since the weather reports were not that good for today and don't like driving in it, we took a road trip last night up to Nanuet to restaurant hop. We drove on Rt 59 which is right of off 287, but it looked like mostly chain restaurants and just really congested. We found the Nanuet restaurant on Middletown Rd., but it looked old and not so clean (I have a thing about cleanliness). In speaking with some of the locals, their specialty is the pizza, but not much else.

We drove further down the road and found a place called Crossroads Restaurant and Bar, we went in. I had a beer and some NE Chowder, which was nice and thick and loaded with clams, close to the one I like at Go Fish in Mystic. I'd go back just for the chowder, they serve it on Fridays and Saturdays only. My BF had a burger and fries, he said it was above average good. We checked the place out, it was clean including the restrooms....(I also have a thing about clean restrooms, lol) :o

They have a sports bar area, nice size and then a seperate restaurant, it was decorated for Mardi Gras another good size space. I spoke to one of the staff and told him what we were planning, they would be happy to accomadate us. I would just have to give them a heads up so they could have staff there, it won't be that busy at 1 pm in the afternoon and they would want to be prepared. They also have plenty of parking.

Speaking to someone else here, he raved about this place and said we'd get a ton for our $$. I still wanted to see other places, so he also told us to drive further down the road to a place called the Porterhouse to check out. They had a nice menu, probably upscale from the Croass roads, but it was Ala Carte and more $$. One thing is they had a smoking room, so when you opened the door it slapped you in the face, I Hated that. We left and went back to the Crossroads, I had an apple martini, a prime rib sand. with fries, it was served with a horse radish sauce and gravy, I enjoyed it. My BF had the chicken and rib combo (he eats a lot, lol) he was pleased with it. I tasted the ribs, not Delaney Hole in the Wall, but good. The menu there overall was good, the usual appatizers, the food varies. The had a whole specialy burger menu, wraps, grilled food, meats, chicken, fish, even if you wanted prime rib and won't bread the bank. I was happy....:)

Not sure yet what my plans are for next weekend, I could take another drive up to check more places out. But this place was cozy and yet big enough, friendly and clean, not sure how many would be coming. Anything in or around the malls would probably be insane, after all this is the tri state area, it's always congested, that's why I hate it so much..

The Crossroads Restaurant looks nice to me too. I briefly looked at the lunch menu, and the sliders and fries might be my choice if we go there. Thanks for checking the place out Kathy!

KathyC
02-05-2011, 02:29 PM
I think the lunch menu was only Monday thru Friday, you could get anything on the regular menu.

Snow Miser
02-05-2011, 02:34 PM
Thanks, I do see that now. Maybe the Hoboken? That looks good. Everything does for that fact.

KathyC
02-05-2011, 02:47 PM
In fact, the menu there is a bit different then the one on line, a lot more options. There was alos an Eastern Moutain Sports right down the road.

Snow Miser
02-05-2011, 02:56 PM
Oh good. It may be better to just wait and look at the menu there. More choices are always good. Except for some diners I've been in and the menu is like 25 pages. Then it's nearly impossible to pick something because it all looks so good. LOL

Charlie
02-05-2011, 08:18 PM
looks good to me its only a little over 3hr away

I know that there are a few posters who are also from this area, one in Wayne, which is only about 15 min. from where I live and some from the Jersey Shore. I am thinking perhaps they don't look in this forum, do you think it would be OK to PM them and let them know?

At the MWO Board meeting yesterday members were told about our little gatherings and they loved it! Several were sorry they did not know about it for the N Conway one. So, spread the word but help keep count here on how many are coming so we can help the restaurant plan. I know that Ed O'Malley is driving his STO10 Subaru from Seattle back to NJ now and he will not be back by the 19th.

I will be posting information about this on Facebook.

Can the restaurant handle 20 people? How about 30?

I think they will be able to accomodate 30, but we may not be all at one table, maybe 2 long tables. Being that today is a Super Bowl, I will call tomorrow and check.

Yes, it was called Mystic Pizza, lol

That was the name, but in a case of artistic license, it was filmed a bit to the East in Stonington, another beautiful town
