The website mentions that membership with the Mount Washington Observatory entitles the member to free entrance to 200 museums across the country. Is there a list anywhere of these museums? What museums in New England are included? I'm assuming the Museum of Science in Boston would be included. Is that correct? If so, that's a solid incentive!

I don't plan to do Seek the Peak in 2011 (the event has just gotten TOO big), so I'm thinking I may just sign up as a member instead.

If you follow the link off the Membership benefits page you get to http://www.astc.org/about/index.htm

The search to find a Science Center in Mass gives 8 of them that are members.

Note that what you want is the Passport Program (http://www.astc.org/members/passlist.htm) list, not just their list of science centers which may differ. Also, it needs to be 90+ miles from the Obs (i.e., North Conway); for example, Boston Museum of Science is free, NH Children's Museum in Dover is not.

We've taken advantage of this program lots of times, all over the country. This is the only membership card I carry in my wallet -- never leave home without it!

Not exactly...it needs to be 90 miles from where you live:

2. Based on your residence: To receive Travel Passport Program benefits, you must live more than 90 miles away ("as the crow flies") from the center/museum you wish to visit. Admissions staff reserve the right to request proof of residence for benefits to apply. See the PDF for details.

For good reason to. It is not meant to be used at your home museums, otherwise you would never join them...just piggyback off your Obs membership. It is really meant for occasional visits while on the road travelling.

Thanks for the catch Bill, but note that when most of the museums I've been to verify it, they base it on where the Obs is located; if memory serves, only once (Toledo Imagination Station) have I been asked to show my driver's license for my own address.

Ok I have signed up for membership with the observatory. How long, generally, is it until one receives the membership card etc?
I'm thinking, just the free trips to the museum of Science will make up for the cost of membership in short order :-)

David, I would expect the Obs staff to work on it tomorrow and get the information to as fast as possible. Should not be much of a wait
