View Full Version : April Contest - Highest Low Temperature

Brad
03-04-2011, 01:13 PM
We have a new contest:

The rules (there are always rules...)

1. The guesses are for the highest low temperature at the summit for the month of April, 2011
2. The source of data to determine the winner is the F6 report for April
3. Entries can be submitted at any time up to 11:59:59 PM on March 25th, 2011
4. Entries must be whole numbers. Any factions will be rounded by the Administrative Staff in a manner determined by the staff at the time with an objective of not creating duplicates, if at all possible. If this is not possible, the guesser will be asked to guess again.
5. Only one entry is allowed per ID on the forum
6. Duplicate entries will not be allowed
7. There is no need to guess where the warm cold air is coming from
8. The winner is the closest guess to the F6 reported results.
9. Any altering of the data by adding cold or warm air to the instruments is not allowed
10. If the exact minimum temperature is not guessed, then the closest (over or under), is the winner. This means there could be two winners.
11. All rulings by the Administrative Staff are arbitrary and final.

Let the guessing begin.

I'm confused!!
What the heck is a "highest low"? Can someone enlighten me where you would find this data on the F6 report? Or could someone explain next weekend when we meet up in Mystic?

Leave it to BB.

Snow Miser

Karen, if I'm correct, it's the highest temp in the Minimum Temp column for the month. For example, on April 2010's F6, day 1 is 34, day 2 is 39, etc.

BAXTERCA2

Bob, if you're correct then would the "highest low" for April 2010 be Day 3 (44)?

Bob, if you're correct then would the "highest low" for April 2010 be Day 3 (44)?

Yes, that would be the winning number.

You are correct. Look at the Low Temperature column and the winner is the one who picks the highest number for the month. The warmest day.

This has been a hard decision. After writing them all on tiny pieces of paper and tossing them in the air and catching one in my mouth I will go with 44 degrees. Crap now I have to pick up all the other papers.

Well, this contest is making us aware of what is happening up on the summit. It might be warm and nice at home but this year is a lot colder - so far - at the summit. I have a feeling the Observers are leaving the doors to the freezers open to influence the results. Maybe Charlie and I need to go up to make sure no one is fudging with the numbers.

We are still still with the highest Daily Low temperature of 33 F. And more than 1/2 the month is gone. Will we get some heat at the summit to warm things up?

2/3rds of the month is gone and we are still stuck with the highest low temperature for the month of 33 F. We need some warming to get into the pack.

or it could be Karen's Day....but we'll see what things look like when the Sumitt gets back up on line later today/tonight...or we get to see the F6 report tomorrow :)

Not Karen's day today anyway. The Conditions page shows temp down around 43-44 this morning with an extra dip lower. But, that might get corrected when they do the F6. Today is not a 46F day. Maybe tomorrow?

tdb1977

Not much chance of a change as the temp now at 9:30 PM is at 28 F. So, when we round midnight there is no chance really of the low being higher than 41 F. We have to wait for the official results from the F6. But, all predictions are that whitemtnvisitor is most likely the winner - maybe.

whitemtnvisitor
04-30-2011, 08:34 AM
Well, I think I may have made the lucky pick. It's a chilly morning this morning on the summit today. With nearly a third of the month being single digits for the high/low temp, I didn't think I was going to have a chance. I guess that's the fun part of Mount Washington weather. You never know what's going to happen...

Brad
05-01-2011, 03:38 PM
Yes, we have a winner. Whitemtnvisitor correctly picked (guessed) the highest low daily temperature for April would be 41 F. He got it right on the nose.

Congrats Whitemtnvisitor. Once again I am beaten out by a degree, tenth of an inch or other narrow margin. I believe that my standard answer may need slight modification. It may turn out that "the answer to life, the universe and everything" is actually "almost 42". ;)
