View Full Version : Sometimes You Get Better Views of Wildlife Just by Staying at Home!

There are times when I'll go off into the woods for a trek and enjoy the walk in the woods, but end up not seeing much (if anything!) in the way of wildlife. My wife will sometimes give me a good natured ribbing by saying that she sees more wildlife than I do by simply looking out the windows of our home. Although it's certainly not an everyday occurrence, she has seen moose, bear, deer, porcupine, as well as the usual variety of birds, squirrels, etc.

A few days ago, I had just walked in the door from one of my "non sight-seeing" hikes when my wife called me over to the window to see a herd of turkeys immediately outside one of our windows. I quickly grabbed my camera and got a couple of shots before they did the "turkey trot" and disappeared into the surrounding woods. The two snapshots below were what I was able to capture.

(Maybe I should start staying home and run up & down the stairs for exercise, while keeping a watchful eye on the views from each of the windows along the "route"!):)

They're really neat shots. They don't even seem bothered by your presence at the window. Then again, maybe they only see their reflections?

And you could stay at home for exercise and photo ops, but I'm sure you would miss those trails too much. :D

If that were my house, I'd probably never leave that room...

Thanks Kathy and Bob for your replies!

Kathy, you're correct! It is sometimes very tempting to simply stay put and keep a watchful eye looking out the windows! And, there's certainly nothing wrong with doing that. But, as Bob suggests, I would miss getting out on the trails if I were to stay put.;):)

We have a large group of turkeys in our neighborhood that occasionally wander through our yard. They have not yet decided to come up and look in the window though. Looks like you've got a peeping Tom on your hands there John! ;)

Mark . . . now that's funny! You're a man who shares my sense of humor! I wish I'd thought of that myself. It would have made a catchy title for my posting!
