Obviously a moving target right now being so far away, but Accuweather is showing a high of 84 and a low of 50 in the Jackson area for the 23rd! Looks like tons of sunshine too.

I wondered when this thread was going to get started...I have been tempted myself. Last year the Obs staff made it very clear that the only weather report you could rely on was theirs, issued about 24 hours in advance...of course last year they predicted rain which didn't materialize until well after the festivities were over.

I guess technically they're are still weathermen! :D

Regardless of the weather, and the last two years has been socked in on the summit, I can't wait!!!

Ah, but once again last year after several years of sterling forecasts and equally sterling days Ryan has earned his position as official STP forecaster. Hope you've got a good one in store for us again this year Knapper! No matter what, see you on top!

I knew it...it was only a matter of time until someone started a thread asking
"what's the weather going to be for STP" or "looking ahead at the forecast for STP weekend...

it's 11 days out...where's the magic 8 ball when you need it

RK are you the official STP forecaster?

Thanks for starting this thread Karl. If Ryan can issue an official STP forecast like AccuWeather is predicting, that would be simply awesome!!!

WOW! I had no idea this was a controversial thread from years past. If I knew that, I would have left it for one of the veterans of STP to start! I agree with Chris, I'm sure the MWObs weather report 24 hours before will be the most accurate and helpful...but it's fun to keep an eye on through Accuweather ;)

BTW - Now its looking like high of 89 and low of 65. The sun is now gone and it is mostly cloudy....how is this not fun!!!

Although, like some have said, it is much too early to get a very accurate forecast, for the past two days, the runs for the 23rd show a cold front sweeping through that will increase clouds and bring about the chance for showers and afternoon thunderstorms. But, so far it does appear that the temperatures for the day will be quite mild either in the 40s or 50s. More to come as the date approaches...

Thanks Ryan!!!

We'll keep our eyes tuned to the Obs Weather Forecast. Sound like it might be similar to the last couple of years.

Wow Ryan - going out on a 10 day limb! Based on your past performance we trust your ability to not only predict the weather on Mt Washington but to use your influence with the weather gods to give us at least a peek at the good stuff during Seek the Peak. Three for three running is a pretty good record. Keep it up!!

Maybe the contest is that if Ryan gets the forecast right, then he gets a free dinner.

Maybe the contest is that if Ryan gets the forecast right, then he gets a free dinner.

And by "right" I mean low wind, clear visibility for miles, and no rain snow or hail.

I don't think this is really about Ryan
Ryan's going to eat dinner no matter what the weather, either at the bottom of the Auto Rd or on the Summit...:)

Much better forecast. Anything but torrential downpours and lightening!

The forecast as of now looks very good for Saturday's STP, and Sunday's Sunrise Drive. I just took an average of a few of the weather websites for Twin Mountain, and right now it looks like we may get:
- high temps in the low 80s
- low temps in the upper 50s
- dewpoint in check at around 58
- partly cloudy
- 20% chance of a shower
- winds out the west at 11 mph

Let all keep our fingers crossed that these conditions come true! :)

Its also looking like Friday is going to be real nice but hot in the 90's. So for those of us that are hiking Friday we better bring the sunblock.

And thus begins the official Crossing of the Fingers!

Saturday can't come soon enough!!!

Forecast (as of now):
Thursday into Friday, a weak upper level cold front will roll through. It will likely produce clouds, some fog and a chance of showers and thunderstorms. And given the increasing humidity levels til then, I wouldn't be surprised if a few pop up. Temps in the mid to upper 60s and winds peaking 45-60 mph before decreasing to 20-35 mph.

Saturday looks as though high pressure will build back in, but there are two things that should be of some concern: upstream convection and a zonal flow. But as of now, it looks like the high should be holding as sunny, upper 60s, winds 20-35 mph dominate. But the flow and the possible convection will have to be monitored til then.

As for the sunrise drive, that is a bit iffy. There is a weak cold front dropping down on Sunday. The drive will all depend on how fast or slow this front moves down.

I will be providing a limited edition extended higher summits forecast on our webpage starting Thursday morning. So stay tuned for more as it comes about...

Thank you RK for tossing in the Sunrise drive into this thread...some of us like to close out STP weekend with the sunrise drive. We wait, we listen to the OBS forecast and we watch for the fog...

I've only seen images of the sunrise on the Summit. Hoping to capture it one day myself.
