brianW posted this on Views From The Top this morning. I just had to share it here. So true!!

One of my good friends posted a picture on FB on the summit of Washington. I gave him a hard time for not hiking but another person wrote this just after my comment.

"FYI Mt Washington is my favorite illustration in Childbirth Class. The hikers do it naturally, the epidural people take the auto road and the C/S people are on the Cog Railway, but really counts is the view from the top!"

Thank you Mark for posting this....it's something I needed to read today...I gotta get off those epidural injections and hit the trail...let nature take it's course...Find me a path or two to wander on...

That's a great quote. We are taking the kids up next week...they are 9, 14 and 16...the 14 year old is Autistic. My wife and I climbed for STP and she thought the kids would enjoy the mountain more if they didn' have to climb from the bottom. So we are going to drive up as far as the trail to the alpine garden and then work our way over to lake in the clouds and then up to the summit. My hope is the experience will make them appreciate the mountain more and some day they will climb it from the bottom with enthusiasm. I guess that makes it the epidural route! ;-)

While this is true the "mountain" doesn't really become the mountain until Winter and there's only one way to get up there then...

To me - it's kinda like sex - when you get to the top, it's over. All the fun is in the "getting there" . . .
