Our first full day in New Hampshire started with an excellent breakfast at the Sunny Day Diner and a close encounter with fellow View From The Top hikers; Mark Tuckerman (aka: Silverfox) and Valerie Charboneau. It was good seeing you guys. Afterwards, we drove along the Kancamagus Highway to the trailhead of Mount Potash where a group of hikers were about to embark on their hike; probably to Mount Hedgehog.

Boots were on the trail at 10:15 am with the smell of snow in the air. It wasn?t long before we reached the Mount Potash trail and just short distance along the path we crossed a snow bridge over Downes Brook.

The trail now entered a hemlock forest and climbed at a moderate grade with good footing. We had our microspikes on which provided the necessary grip on the icy sections of the trail.
Our first viewpoint was to the southeast towards Mount Passaconaway and Mount Hedgehog where we could see storm clouds coming from the Northwest.

We shared some snacks and proceeded on to the summit of Mount Potash where it began to snow. Off in the distance we could see snow squalls coming towards us but most of the time the large snowflakes were gently falling around us. We sat on the summit for about a half hour enjoying the views from the open ledge, looking west towards the clouded summits of the Tripyramids and The Fool Killer.

Soon it was time to leave and we were back at our vehicle by 2 pm. Total mileage was 4.4 miles with an elevation gain of 1,500 feet.
